先週の土曜日、鴨江アートセンターで開催されたジャズ・マニューシュのライブに行ってきました。I went to a jazz manouche concert at Kamoe Art Center last Saturday.
ジャズ・マニューシュというのは、ジプシー・スウィングとも呼ばれ、フランスやベルギーのロマ民族(ジプシー)伝統の音楽と、アメリカンジャズが融合したものだそうです。Jazz manouche is also called gypsy swing, a fusion of French and Belgian Romany (gypsy) traditional music with American jazz.
浜松市内のフレンチアンティークショップオーナーのゆかりさんが、パリ在住時代に出会ったというギタリストの羽多野智高をパリから、もうお一方の山本佳史さんは大阪からお迎えしてのイベントでした。This event was organized by local French antique shop owner Yukari. She invited Tomotaka Hatano after meeting him in Paris when she was living there, and Yoshifumi Yamamoto from Osaka.
羽多野さんは、ジャズマニューシュの本場パリでギタリストとして12年間、現在もパリでご活躍中。Mr. Hatano has been a jazz manouche guitarist in its hometown of Paris for over 12 years.
山本さんは1998,1999年、ギブソン・ジャズギターコンテストで入賞後、海外の様々な音楽メーカーとエンドースメント契約、CD発売など、ご活躍中。
Mr. Yamamoto has been signed with some foreign music labels and released CDs after winning awards at the Gibson Jazz Guitar Contest in 1998 & 1999.
今回はそんなお二人のデュオ、という貴重なイベントでした。This special event was was a duo performance.
ジャズ・マニューシュの特徴のひとつはピックを使わない指での速弾きですが、お二人ともあり得ないほどのテクニックで、その速さには圧倒されます。One of the characteristics of jazz manouche is high-speed play without the use of picks and the speed and technique of these two artists was simply amazing beyond belief.
曲の始まりはサラリとさりげなく、終わりはお二人の間で目配せがあるような無いような、しかしぴったりと息が合ったところを魅せてくれます。A song would begin rather simply, but by the end the perfect synchronisation of the performance was impressive ... not sure if they ever even exchanged glances or not.
流石です、カッコいい！They sure know how to please us! very cool!
ギターの音色を聴きながら、パリの路地裏のカフェで、ワインをお供に、気の置けない仲間と、いつまでもとりとめのないお喋りをしていたい、そんな妄想に駆られました。Listening to the guitar sound, I was dreaming having a glass of wine with my friends at a back street cafe in Paris, enjoying some endless chat.
晩夏の一夜のお楽しみでした。It was a fun late summer night.
