京都迎賓館のタペストリー Tapestry in Kyoto State Guest House≫

今回の京都の旅では、京都迎賓館にも行ってきました。During my trip to Kyoto, I visited the Kyoto State Guest House, too.
2005年のオープン以来年に一度のみの公開でしたが、去年より通年の一般公開になりました。Since it opened in 2005, the Kyoto State Guest House had been opened to public for a short time only once a year, however, from last year they are now opened all year long.
ネットでの事前予約すらなかなかできない状況でしたが、今回やっと、当日朝並んで整理券をゲットし、ガイドツアー方式での参観でした。Though it's very hard to make a reservation on their website, I managed to get a ticket for the 'tour with guide' that morning while waiting in line.
今月は秋の特別展示「有職織物の優雅なしつらえ」が開催中です。This month they showcase their 'Imperial Elegance of Yusoku-ori Fabrics'" as a special exhibition in autumn.
有職織物とは、平安時代より公家の生活に使われている公家様式の絹織物で、現在も重要な宮中行事に使われているそうです。Yusoku-ori is a fine silk fabric traditionally used in the Japanese Imperial Court since the middle of the Heian Period (11th Century) and is even now used in a major ceremonies and events by the Imperial Family.
現代和風がテーマというこちらの建物は、洋風の迎賓館赤坂離宮とは対照的な入母屋屋根と数寄屋造り。This sophisticated modern Japanese facility was built in theIrimoya and Sukiya styles, in contrast to the western style Akasaka Palace State Guest House in Tokyo.
中でも、晩餐会が行われる「藤の間」の16.6mのつづれ織の美しさには圧倒されます。I was especially astonished when I saw the 16.6m long woven tapestry in the Fuji-no-Ma Banquet Hall.
この壁画装飾は、日本画家 鹿見 喜陌(しかみ きよみち)の下絵を基に製作された「織物」なのです。This wall decoration was 'woven' based on the 'Shikami Kiyomichi', a Japanese artist's painting.
そのほか「夕映の間」にも東西にふたつの壁画があり、やはり日本画家の箱崎睦昌(はこざきむつまさ)の下絵を基にしたつづれ織だそうです。There are two more woven tapestries on the east and west walls in the Yubae-no-Ma Large Conference Room, based on another Japanese artist's paintings called the 'Hakozaki Mutsumasa'.
製作過程を想像すると、職人の技術の高さとエネルギーに感動するばかりです。Imagining how they accomplished these works, I was overwhelmed at the artisans' high technique and energy.
カラフルな錦鯉が放たれた池を含む庭園は、歩くことは出来ませんが、ガラス越しに、また建物を繋ぐ橋の上から見られます。While we can't walk in the garden, we can see it and the pond with its various colored carp through the windows and from the bridge which connects two buildings.
日本工芸と伝統の美が結集した、美術館のような京都迎賓館でした。This Kyoto State Guest House was just like a museum concentrating on Japanese traditional crafts and beauty.
