先日、人生初の陶芸を体験してきました。
The other day, I had the first experience of my life to create a piece of pottery.
今年１月、天神蔵ギャラリーで個展を開かれていた山口剛先生の”剛釜”で。
It was at Go Pottery which is owned by the same Mr. Yamaguchi who had an exhibition at the Tenjingura Gallery last January.

この日、天竜区の山合いに向かう道中、川に立ち昇る霧を見ながら、気分は次第に休日モードに。
Heading into the mountains of Tenryu Ward, I saw some mist rising off the river and it felt like I was going on holiday.
剛窯に到着して、先ずはギャラリーを見学。
When we arrived at Go Pottery we first looked around the gallery.
初心者に何が作れるのかを伺いながら、自分が作りたいものを頭の中でイメージ。
While asking what beginners make, I was imagining what I could make.
私は平たい抹茶茶碗を作ることに決めました。
I decided on making a shallow tea bowl.
作業場に移って、いざ”ろくろ”の前に座ります。
We all moved into the workroom and sat at rotating lathes.
この日は鉄分が入った黒い土を使いました。
This time we used black clay which contained some iron.
丸い塊から始まり、中央に親指で穴を開け、少しずつ穴を広げて、厚みを均一にしていきます。
Starting with a clay ball, we made a hole in the middle with our thumb, then gradually enlarged the hole, and finally evened out the wall thickness.
一度干して乾かしてから、高台を付けて、自分の名前を入れました。
After drying for while, added a base to the bowl and signed it.
これで、この日の作業は完了！
And that was all for the day!
好みの色や仕上がりのイメージは先生に伝えてあるため、残りの釉薬をかけて焼く工程は、先生にお任せなのです！
All members told the instructor their favorite colours and design so he'll complete the glazing and firing himself.
2ヶ月後に完成品とご対面するのが、楽しみで仕方ありません!
I can't wait to see my finished bowl in two months time!
P.S. この工房の住所は、天竜区の「月」です。幻想的な地名ですね！
