ふたりのサンタクロース Two Santa Clauses≫

我が家には、もう15年近く前からふたりのサンタクロースがいます。
There have been two Santa Clauses in my house for about 15 years.
トールペイントがブームだった当時、私がペイントした、赤と白のサンタクロース。
I painted these red and white Santas when 'tole painting' was all the rage.
と言っても、白のは完成品、赤のはベースの赤絵の具を塗ったところで中断したまんま。
Actually, the red one isn't finished yet as I gave up after painting the base colour ... but the white one is completed.
当時通っていた静岡市の教室を、浜松に引越すのをきっかけに止めてしまったからです。
When I moved to Hamamatsu City from Shizuoka City, I had to quit my painting school ... so that's why.
トールペイントにもアメリカ流、ヨーロッパ流、色んなスタイルがありますが。
There are American, European, and other styles of tole painting.
私はトラディショナルなデザインよりも、アーティスト・バルーチャ美智子の自由な画風が好きでした。
I prefer the freestyle painting of artists like Michiko Bharoocha rather than the more traditional designs.
このサンタクロース、バスケットや、缶も彼女のデザインです。

先日、私がマリメッコの生地でクッションを作ってアップしたところ、ヒロエが裁縫をするなんて意外、というお声もありましたが…
When I mentioned making cushions using Marimekko fabrics in a previous blog, some people were surprised to hear I was into sewing.
実は、織物問屋の娘として生まれた私は、物心ついた時から生地に囲まれて育ってきました。
In fact, I was born the daughter of a textile company owner and have always been surrounded by cloth and fabric.
幼稚園時代からリカちゃん人形の洋服を自分で縫っていたような子供です。
In my kindergarten days, I was an unusual little child who could make Rica-chan doll dresses.
そんなわけで、実はハンドメイド大好き！
Anyways, honestly speaking, I do love handicrafts!
特に一年の中でこの季節は、部屋に籠って創作活動が楽しい時期です。
This time of year it's especially fun to stay inside and make things.
ちょっと懐かしい作品を引っ張り出してきたので、お披露目しちゃいます！
Please let me take out and show you a few of my old, nostalgic handicrafts.
この季節に合ったものだけ並べてみました。
These things I chose are suitable for this winter season.
赤ちゃん用のブランケット、長男の一歳の誕生日プレゼントに編んだカーディガン、部屋に飾る布製リース、自分用エプロン…などなど。
A baby blanket, a cardigan made for my son's first birthday, a fabric wreath decoration, and an apron ... among others.
もう少し歳をとったら、また絵を描いたりしようと思っています。
When I get older I'll probably feel like painting again.
でもインスピレーションが沸くまで、今はお休み中。
But I'm currently on hiatus waiting for inspiration.
沢山のカワイイ布達も、引き出しの中で出番待ち中…
A lot of the 'kawaii' fabrics in my drawers are waiting too ...

裕子さん、コメントありがとうございます！あのカーディガンは、長男のものですから、20年以上も前のもの。編み物はもう10年以上やってないです〜
私自身が物作りが好きなので、由美子さんと裕子さんの作品にも、すごく感動したんですよ！！
クリエイティブな人、みんな大好きです(￣▽￣)
