皇居の紅葉 Palace Leaves≫

先週12/3から五日間、天皇陛下の傘寿をお祝いして皇居の乾通りが一般公開されましたね。
For five days starting from December 3rd, the 'Inuidori' of the Imperial Palace was opened to the public to celebrate the Emperor's 80th birthday.
たまたま私 東京で、アルクキッズ英語の年に一度のフォーラムに出席する予定でしたので、ちょっと行ってみようという気になりまして。
As I was planning to attend the ALC kids English annual forum in Tokyo, I felt like visiting.
土曜日の朝、東京駅から皇居に直行しました。
On Saturday morning, I went straight to the Imperial Palace from Tokyo station.
予想どおりの長蛇の列に圧倒されながらも、門の前で待つこと45分、そして700mの乾通りを歩くこと45分…
As expected, I had to wait 45 minutes in a very long line before entering the gate, then it took another 45 minutes to walk 700m to the inside of the palace.
NHKによりますと、この日一日で79,000人が訪れたとのこと。
According to NHK news, 79,000 people visited that day.
幸い、師走にしては穏やかで美しい晴天でしたので、なんとかその１時間半を耐えることができました。
If it wasn't for the beautiful December weather, I wouldn't have enjoyed the hour and a half waiting and walking outside.
普段見ることの出来ない門の中、それなりに楽しむことができましたが、人の波に埋もれて…写真を撮るのは至難の技でした。
I enjoyed walking leisurely inside the usually forbidden gate, but had some difficulty taking pictures with so many people around.
見頃の紅葉を期待していた私は、やや欲求不満ぎみ、そして次に訪れたのは六義園。
I was a little disappointed as I had expected to see colored leaves at their peak ... so I headed to Rikugien Garden.
ここは江戸時代に造られた大名庭園の中の代表的な庭園、国指定特別名勝。
Rikugien Garden was landscaped for a feudal lord of the Edo Era and is a National Designated Scenic Beauty Spot.
万葉集や古今和歌集に詠まれた紀州の景勝地にちなんで造られたとのこと。
With a layout inspired by the Kishu District's beautiful sights, the garden design also references poetry from Manyoshu and Kokinwakashu (Japan's oldest poem anthology)
しかし、歴史的な背景はともかく、私のお目当は翌日終了してしまう日没後のライトアップ。
History aside, I wanted to see the illuminated garden after sunset as this event was finishing the next day.
素敵でした、寒さも忘れるほどの美しさ。
The views were stunning ... I almost forgot how cold I was looking at the beautiful garden.
とはいえ、温まるためにお汁粉は頂きましたけど。
Still, I needed some oshiruko to completely warm up.
春の桜の時期にまた行ってみたい場所です。
I'd love to visit again and see the spring cherry blossoms.
