名古屋友禅、組紐展 Nagoya-Yuzen & Kumihimo Exhibition≫

ここのところ着物を着る機会が多い私ですが、さてこの週末も、着物にまつわるイベントのために、名古屋に行ってまいりました。
Recently, as some of you may know, I often wear kimono. So again, last weekend, I was in kimono to visit a kimono-related exhibition in Nagoya.
文化のみち撞木館 主催の、手描き友禅の帯と組紐の展覧会へ。
The exhibition is being held by Bunkanomichi Shumokukan and is about hand-painted Yuzen obi and kumihimo.
手描き友禅アーティスト Potter Atobe 由美子さんとは、私の親友 美智子さんを通じて昨年知り合いました。
I met the hand-painted Yuzen artist Mrs. Yumiko Atobe Potter through my friend Michiko last year.
宮城県出身の彼女は、美術系大学を卒業された後、オランダの日本人学校で教師をされたり、アメリカ人のご主人とアメリカで15年過ごされた後に、再び日本に生活の拠点を移されたという経歴の持ち主。
She's from Miyagi Prefecture, graduated art university, and after teaching at a Japanese school in the Netherlands then spending 15 years in the US with her American husband, she returned to Japan to settle down.
一方、組紐アーティストの長谷川裕子さんとは、私はこの日が初対面でしたが、かつて浜松市に住まれたこともあると聞き親近感が…これからお近づきになれればと思っています。
However, it was my first time to meet kumihimo artist Mrs. Yuko Hasegawa and I'd like to know more about her ... feeling something congenial as she had once lived in Hamamatsu City.
さて、この作品展、「暦十二ヶ月」というタイトルで、それぞれの月のイメージに合った絵が帯に描かれ、その帯に合うようにデザインされた組紐が１２ヶ月分展示されたものです。
The exhibition is titled, '12 Months of the Calendar' and shows 12 different kumihimo designs that match each month's obi design.
この展覧会、街中のギャラリーなどでなく、文化のみち撞木館で開催されたことで、作品の魅力がより一層引き出されているように感じます。
I think these creations are made all the more appealing by being shown at Bunkanomichi Shumokukan, instead of in a standard downtown gallery.
大正浪漫ムード溢れるこの旧貿易商の邸宅、洋館・和館・茶室・庭園からなり…そこにお二人のアーティストの作品と、それぞれのテーマに合わせてアレンジされた生け花などの装飾品が。
This old Taisho-roman trading merchant's residence has western-styled rooms, Japanese-styled rooms, a tearoom, and gardens and the two artists' designs are set in decorative arrangements with flowers.
私達は見る者は、その優雅な美の世界に引き込まれて感動すら覚えます。
We visitors were absorbed in the refined atmosphere and easily moved.
ちなみに、京友禅は華やかで優美、加賀友禅は繊細で優雅であるのに対して、名古屋友禅は「渋さ」を本質に、雅ある美しさをかもし出しているのだそうです。
Regarding Yuzen, it's said that Kyo-Yuzen is gorgeous and graceful, Kaga-Yuzen is delicate and elegant, and that Nagoya-Yuzen has an elegance from its austere beauty.
なるほど、わかります。
I could feel that.
作品作りの工程は、気が遠くなるような細かい作業の繰り返しで、ここでは触れませんが、この12の作品を仕上げるのに、三年の歳月が費やされているそうです。
Yumiko said it took three years to complete these 12 works ... I won't describe the creation process as it involves much overwhelmingly delicate work.
そのエネルギーに脱帽。
I was enormously impressed by these ladies passionate work.
情熱を持って仕事に打ち込む女性、なんて美しいのでしょう！
What brilliant women and so enthusiastic about their creations!
