Large Clam Minivelo 大アサリミニベロ≫

Yesterday we held another PoPBunka! minivelo cycling event ... this time to the Atsumi Peninsula. 昨日はまた、PoPBunka！のミニヴェロサイクリングに出かけました。今回は、渥美半島まで。
Luckily, the rainy weather forecast wasn't true and we enjoyed overcast skies only all day. ラッキーなことに、雨の予報も外れて、一日中いいお天気を堪能しました。
The ride west along the Pacific Ocean bicycle route was beautiful ... so many surfers in the water yesterday! 太平洋東側に伸びる自転車道はきれいでした…そのため、昨日は多くのサーファー達も見かけました。
From the high road around the Irago View Hotel, we could see Kami Island in Ise Bay ... this is the island made famous in Yukio Mishima's novel 'Shiosai'. 伊良湖ビューホテル周辺の公道からは、伊勢湾の神島も見えました。三島由紀夫の小説、『潮騒』で有名になった島です。
For lunch we stopped in at one of the seafood restaurants in the Cape Irago park area. お昼には、伊良湖岬公園付近にある、シーフードレストランに立ち寄りました。
The large-sized BBQ clams are famous here and lunch was delicious, healthy, and satisfying. おお振りなハマグリの浜焼きがここでは有名で、お昼はとっても美味しくて、健康的で、そして大満足でした。
After lunch we rode around the west side of Cape Irago to see the local lighthouse and Ise Bay. 昼食後には伊良湖岬の東側を、灯台と伊勢湾が見えるところまで進みました。
Foe dessert we stopping in at a locally-famous gelato place called 'Baroque' and I ordered a double scoop cone. おやつには、地元で有名なジェラートのお店、バロックさんに。そしてダブルスクープコーンをお願いしました。
In total we rode 49.5km ... a little farther than originally planned but it was very fun! 今回は全部で 49.5kmを走破。もともとの予定よりちょっと長くはなりましたが、とっても楽しかったです！参加してくださった皆さん、ありがとうございました。
Thanks riders for coming and let's go again soon! また行きましょうね！

ベトナムツアー ダナン・ホイアン・フエ編 Vietnam Tour Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue≫

さて、ベトナムツアー三日目の朝、ハノイからダナンへ飛びました。On the third morning of our trip we flew from Hanoi to Da Nang.
ランチはダナン名物、汁無し麺料理ミークアン。We had the local speciality Mi Quang noodles with toppings and soup for lunch.
北部のハノイ料理が出汁を効かせた塩味が中心なのに対し、中部ベトナム料理は甘さと酸味、そしてスパイスが特徴のようです。Salty broth is the style in northern areas like Hanoi, but in central Vietnam sweet, sour, and spicy are characteristic.
ビーチリゾートとして人気のダナンは、意外と都会的。The popular beach resort Da Nang was surprisingly urban.
レストランもモダンでオシャレでした。The restaurants were modern and fashionable.
午後は、インド文化と共に栄えた、4世紀〜14世紀頃のチャンパ王国の聖地である、世界遺産ミーソン遺跡へ。In the afternoon we visited the world heritage Myson Sanctuary which are partially ruined Hindu temples constructed by King Champa from the 4th to 14th centuries.
そして、こちらも世界遺産、ランタンが灯る幻想的な街並みが有名なホイアンへ。Next, we visited Hoi An Ancient Town, another world heritage site famous the magical looking lantern view.
ここは海上貿易で栄えた港町。中国、フランスなど様々な国の文化が融合した町には、「日本橋」という名の橋もかかっていました。This port town prospered in seagoing commerce with various cultural influences from China, France, and more ... there was even a bridge called Nihonbashi!
ディナーは川沿いのレストランで、海老シュウマイに似たホワイト・ローズ、豚ひき肉を乗せた揚げワンタン、日本の伊勢うどんがルーツといわれる太麺料理のカオラウ、これらホイアン三大名物料理をいただきました。At dinner time we had the three local specialties; White Rose which is similar to steamed shrimp dumplings, fried wonton with minced pork, and Cao Lau which are thick noodles derived from Ise Udon.
ベトナムでは、どこで何を食べても、ハズレがなく美味しい！I realized we would never be disappointed with any food anywhere in Vietnam.
と確信しました。Everything was delicious!
この夜宿泊したダナンのリゾートホテルが、なかなかいい雰囲気。The resort hotel at Da Nang where we stayed that night was excellent.
今回の旅友Nさん、翌朝5時には一階の私達の部屋からプライベートビーチへ出て、ヨガしてました！My travel mate Ms. N was doing Yoga on the private beach just in front of our room, around 5am next morning!
さて4日目は、ベトナム最後の王都が置かれた古都フエへ。On our 4th day we visited the last imperial Vietnamese capital city of Hue.
フランスに傾倒し派手好きだった第12代ガイディン皇帝の墓所、詩と哲学を愛した第4代トゥドゥック皇帝の緑豊かな別荘、八角七層の塔が美しいティエン・ムー寺、最後の王朝グエン朝の王宮などを巡り… We toured the mausoleum of 12th Emperor Khai Dinh who admired France and liked flashy things, the holiday house of the 4th Emperor Tu Duc surrounded by beautiful greens, the Thien Mu Temple with its unique octagonal seven-story tower, and the last Vietnamese royal palace, the picturesque Nguyen Royal Palace.
昼食の”宮廷料理”は、色とりどりの野菜で精巧に作られ鳥や植物で飾られていました。For lunch, we had 'court food' with fine decorations of birds and flowers made of vegetables.
夕方には、ベトナム旅行最後の目的地、ホーチミンへと発ちました。And we left for our last destination Ho Chi Minh City in the evening.

Sugarian Minivelo 百古里庵ミニベロ≫

We went minivelo cycling up the Tenryu River again yesterday! 昨日再び、天龍川までミニベロでサイクリングに行ってきました！
Springtime is the best! 春は絶好の季節です！
After taking the Red Line train to the end station, we rode across the Tenryu River into the mountains. 赤電で終点まで行って、天龍川を渡り山の中へ。
We were headed to our lunchtime destination, the soba restaurant Sugarian. 僕たちの目的地は蕎麦処の百古里あん。
After riding through a forest of the sun speckled pine and cedar trees we arrived at the 100 year old farmhouse restaurant. 松や杉の林の木漏れ日の中を走った後、築100年になる農家レストランに到着しました。
For lunch we had tempura and soba with some interesting black charcoal cheesecake ice-cream for dessert. 昼食に天ぷらと蕎麦、そしてデザートには、興味深い黒色の炭チーズケーキアイスクリームをいただきました。
Yes, black charcoal cheesecake ice-cream ... tasted pretty good actually. うん、黒色の炭チーズケーキアイスクリーム、食べてみたらすごく美味しかったよ。
After lunch we enjoyed the hardest part of the route, a 1.5km long winding uphill climb. ランチの後、このコースで最もキツい場所、1.5kmの曲がりくねった登り坂を楽しみました。
With every uphill, there is always a downhill ... and this one was super fun! 登り坂の後には必ず下り坂があって… で、ここがすっごく楽しかったところ！
Next was riding along the east bank cycle path of the Tenryu River, a very tranquil route this time of year. そのあとは、この時期とても静かな天龍川の東側の堤防に沿って走りました。
In total we rode just over 46km ... a little tiring but super fun! 全て合わせると丁度46キロを超えたくらい走ったかな…ちょっと疲れるんだけど、それでも楽しいよ！
We'll be going again soon and hope that two of our favourite riders will be joining us next time! (TOEIC test lady and stomach problem man)
また直ぐにサイクリングに行くよ！その時には僕らが大好きな二人のサイクリング仲間も来て欲しいな！(TOEICテスト女子と腹痛男子)

ベトナムツアー ハノイ編 Vietnam Tour in Hanoi≫

今年のゴールデンウィーク、「ベトナム縦断グルメ紀行」なるツアーに参加してみました。During Golden Week this year, I took a trip called, 'Vietnam Longitudinal Gourmet Tour'.
北から南へ、五つの世界遺産を巡りながらベトナム料理を堪能するという、パッケージツアーならではの充実した内容でした。It was a fully-packed tour traveling from the north to the south of Vietnam, visiting five world heritage sites, all the while enjoying Vietnamese food.
令和元年初日の5/1午前、激混みの中部国際空港を発ち、午後の2:15にハノイに到着。On the morning of May 1st, the first day of Reiwa Era, we left Chubu Centrair International Airport and arrived in Hanoi at 2:15pm.
さっそく、約1000年間も都が置かれたというタンロン城、ハスの花に見立てた一本の柱の上に建つ一桂寺、建国の父ホーチミンが安置されているホーチミン廟などをツアーバスで観光です。We soon took a sightseeing bus tour, visiting Thang Long Castle which was the seat of the capital for 1000 years, the One Pillar Pagoda which was designed as a lotus flower, and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum where the county’s founding father is enshrined.
夕方には、伝統芸能の水上人形劇を鑑賞… 伝統音楽の生演奏とコミカルで巧妙な人形の演技は、想像以上に楽しめました。In the evening, we watched a traditional Vietnamese water puppets performance that was very skillful and comical, much more amusing than I had expected.
この夜のハノイ料理のディナーは、日本人にも馴染みのあるチキンのフォーや、魚のすり身を油で揚げたチャーカーなど。At dinner we ate chicken pho which we Japanese are familiar with, had a mashed fried fish called Cha Ca, and more.
鷄お出汁がよーく聞いたフォーのスープは絶品でした！The pho’s chicken broth was very rich and tasted great!
翌朝には、ベトナム陶器の一大産地、バッチャン村へ。The next morning we visited Bat Tràng Village which is a major production area for Vietnamese porcelain.
絵付け師の実演をしばし鑑賞した後は、アンティークのお抹茶茶碗を購入して、ホクホクな私。After watching a painter’s demonstration for a while, I happily bought an antique matcha bowl.
そして、いよいよ世界遺産ハロン湾クルーズ！Then it was time for the World Heritage site Ha Long Bay cruise!
ハロン湾の大小様々な2000もの奇岩がそびえ立つ様子は幻想的で、中国は桂林の水墨画に似ていて、「海の桂林」と呼ばれているとか。The view of more than 2000 variously-sized, oddly shaped rocks in the bay is mystical ... it's called the Sea of Keirin because it looks just like the Keirin ink paintings from China.
2時間半のクルーズの前半は船上でランチ。In the first half of the cruise, we had lunch on the boat.
シーフードがたまらなく美味しい〜！The seafood was very good!
後半には鍾乳洞にも立ち寄りました。Later on, we stopped and visited a limestone cave.
この日の気温は28度、船上は日差しはあるものの、風が心地よく、この時はまだ翌日以降の猛暑を知りませんでした。。。The temperature was 28'C this day and despite the sunshine on the boat, the air was fresh and comfortable. We couldn’t yet imagine how hot it was going to be the next day ...

今年のゴールデンウィーク、「ベトナム縦断グルメ紀行」なるツアーに参加してみました。During Golden Week this year, I took a trip called, 'Vietnam Longitudinal Gourmet Tour'.
北から南へ、五つの世界遺産を巡りながらベトナム料理を堪能するという、パッケージツアーならではの充実した内容でした。It was a fully-packed tour traveling from the north to the south of Vietnam, visiting five world heritage sites, all the while enjoying Vietnamese food.
令和元年初日の5/1午前、激混みの中部国際空港を発ち、午後の2:15にハノイに到着。On the morning of May 1st, the first day of Reiwa Era, we left Chubu Centrair International Airport and arrived in Hanoi at 2:15pm.
さっそく、約1000年間も都が置かれたというタンロン城、ハスの花に見立てた一本の柱の上に建つ一桂寺、建国の父ホーチミンが安置されているホーチミン廟などをツアーバスで観光です。We soon took a sightseeing bus tour, visiting Thang Long Castle which was the seat of the capital for 1000 years, the One Pillar Pagoda which was designed as a lotus flower, and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum where the county’s founding father is enshrined.
夕方には、伝統芸能の水上人形劇を鑑賞… 伝統音楽の生演奏とコミカルで巧妙な人形の演技は、想像以上に楽しめました。In the evening, we watched a traditional Vietnamese water puppets performance that was very skillful and comical, much more amusing than I had expected.
この夜のハノイ料理のディナーは、日本人にも馴染みのあるチキンのフォーや、魚のすり身を油で揚げたチャーカーなど。At dinner we ate chicken pho which we Japanese are familiar with, had a mashed fried fish called Cha Ca, and more.
鷄お出汁がよーく聞いたフォーのスープは絶品でした！The pho’s chicken broth was very rich and tasted great!
翌朝には、ベトナム陶器の一大産地、バッチャン村へ。The next morning we visited Bat Tràng Village which is a major production area for Vietnamese porcelain.
絵付け師の実演をしばし鑑賞した後は、アンティークのお抹茶茶碗を購入して、ホクホクな私。After watching a painter’s demonstration for a while, I happily bought an antique matcha bowl.
そして、いよいよ世界遺産ハロン湾クルーズ！Then it was time for the World Heritage site Ha Long Bay cruise!
ハロン湾の大小様々な2000もの奇岩がそびえ立つ様子は幻想的で、中国は桂林の水墨画に似ていて、「海の桂林」と呼ばれているとか。The view of more than 2000 variously-sized, oddly shaped rocks in the bay is mystical ... it's called the Sea of Keirin because it looks just like the Keirin ink paintings from China.
2時間半のクルーズの前半は船上でランチ。In the first half of the cruise, we had lunch on the boat.
シーフードがたまらなく美味しい〜！The seafood was very good!
後半には鍾乳洞にも立ち寄りました。Later on, we stopped and visited a limestone cave.
この日の気温は28度、船上は日差しはあるものの、風が心地よく、この時はまだ翌日以降の猛暑を知りませんでした。。。The temperature was 28'C this day and despite the sunshine on the boat, the air was fresh and comfortable. We couldn’t yet imagine how hot it was going to be the next day ...

曜変天目茶碗 Yohen Tenmoku Teabowl≫

4月の第三日曜日、滋賀県は琵琶湖の南にあるMIHO MUSEUM に行ってきました。On the third Sunday in April, I visited the Miho Museum just south of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture.
今、茶の湯ファンの間で話題になっている、国宝 曜変天目茶碗の一つが、大徳寺龍光院からお出ましだというのです。A current hot topic among Japanese tea fans, the National Treasure Yohen Tenmoku teabowl from Daitokuji Temple Ryuko-in was on exhibition there.
曜変天目は、中国福建省で南宋時代に大量に焼かれた茶碗のうち、偶然窯内で美しい結晶が生じたものです。The Yuhen Tenmoku is a type of teabowl that was made in Fujian Province, China and has unusual crystalline patterns that spontaneously appear during the kiln firing process in large numbers.
天目茶碗の故郷である中国には、破片は残っているものの、完成形はひとつもないとのこと。It seems there is no perfect example in China, only some broken relics, though they were originally created there.
一方で、アンティークとして室町時代に日本に渡ったもののうち、三つだけが残り、現在国宝として同時期に、東京、滋賀、奈良の三箇所で公開されているのです！On the other hand, some of the bowls were brought to Japan as antiques during the Muromachi Era and three of them still exist as national treasures. They are all now currently on exhibit in Tokyo, Shiga, and Nara respectively.
30分待ちでご対面できたこちらの曜変天目は、他の二つと比べると静かで「詫びた」佇まいだと表現されているようです。After a 30 minute wait we could see the Yohen Tenmoku teabowl, often described as quiet and wabi looking.
碗の中を覗き込むと、暗い宇宙に銀の斑紋が…その中に青、紫、緑、黄色の光が放たれていました。Looking into the bowl, I could see silver stars of blue, purple, green, and yellow colors with a dark outer space.
春の陽気の中、初めて訪れたMIHO MUSEUMは、咲き誇る枝垂れ桜に囲まれて、建物の内外、エリア全体を楽しめる場所でした。On this warm spring day, it was my first visit to MIHO MUSEUM which is surrounded by beautiful weeping sakura trees in bloom, and I found the museum enjoyable both inside and out.
フランス、ルーブル美術館のガラスのピラミッドを設計したI.M.ペイが手掛けたこの美術館、桃源郷の物語を具現化したものだそうです。I.M. Pei, the architect who designed the Louvre Pyramid in France, designed the museum building to realize the story of Togenkyo.
美術館のアプローチロードである長いトンネルは、桃源郷へ続く洞窟なのです。The long tunnel approach road to the museum represents 'the cave which leads to Togenkyo'.
美しい枝垂れ桜は、桃の代わりだそうです。The beautiful weeping sakura trees substitute for the peach blossoms in the story.
私たちは、混雑したレストランを避けて外でランチピクニック。We avoided the crowded restaurant and enjoyed a picnic lunch outside.
さて、あと二つの曜変天目を見に、奈良と東京へいきますかどうか…！？Hmm ... should we go to Nara and Tokyo and see the other two Yohen Tenmoku teabowl exhibitions !?

Rabbit Island Holiday 2019 ゴールデンウィークうさぎ島≫

This long Golden Week, I took my last trip of the Heisei Era to the western part of Japan. この長いゴールデンウィーク、私は西日本に平成最後の旅に出かけました。
First stop was the UNESCO World Heritage listed and recently refurbished Himeiji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture. 最初に訪れたのは、ユネスコ世界遺産に登録され、また最近改修が完了した、兵庫県の姫路城。
The two-hour lineup was definitely worth it as this is, without a doubt, the most impressive surviving castle in Japan. 2時間ほど並んだ甲斐がありました！間違いなく、姫路城は日本に残る最も感動的なお城です。
The views from the top of the castle keep were spectacular too ... you could almost see my next stop Okayama Prefecture from there! 天守閣からの眺めも素晴らしかったです。次に訪れる岡山県も見えてしまうかも、というくらいでした。
My next destination was Koraku-en Garden, one of the three famous garden parks in Japan. 次に立ち寄ったのは後楽園。日本の三大庭園のひとつです。
Koraku-en is just as beautiful as Kairaku-en and Kenroku-en, but in its own unique way. (Actually, I like Ritsurin Garden best!) 後楽園は、偕楽園や兼六園と同じく美しいのはもちろんなのですが、後楽園には独特の美しさがあります。（実は、私は栗林公園が一番好きです。）
As I was leaving the park, I came across this astonshing looking feeding frenzy of Japanese pond carp ... wow! 庭園を後にしようという時、鯉の餌やりの場面に遭遇しました…すごっ！
After Okayama Prefecture, I drove west along the Shimanami Kaidō to see the famous islands interconnected by numerous bridges. 岡山県の次には、しまなみ海道沿いを西に進み、数々の橋で繋がれた有名な島々を見ました。
I'll be back here someday with my minivelo for a cycling trip! いつかミニヴェロでサイクリングをしたいです！
The main event for this trip was a visit to Ōkunoshima, also known as Rabbit Island. この旅の主な目的は、ウサギの島と知られる、大久島を訪れることでした。
During World War II, Ōkunoshima Island was used as a secret base to manufacture chemical weapons. 第二次世界大戦中、大久島は薬物兵器を製造する秘密基地として使われていました。
The current rabbit population of about 1000 is descended from the rabbits used for testing chemical weapons during the war. 現在、大久島に住むウサギの数は1000匹ほど。彼らは、戦中の薬物兵器の動物実験に使われたウサギの子孫です。
Rabbits are everywhere on the island and they are very tame and friendly! ウサギさんたちが島のそこら中にいますが、よく慣れていてフレンドリーです！
Today, Ōkunoshima is a very beautiful place with only hints of its dark past to be seen around the island. 今日、大久島は暗い過去など微塵も見えない、美しい場所です。
The horror of Okunoshima's wartime history and the cuteness of all the bunnies makes for a very strange juxtaposition. 大久島の戦中の歴史の恐ろしさと、うさちゃん達のかわいさが、同時にある不思議さを感じます。
The last stop on the itinerary was the port city of Kure in Hiroshima Prefecture, with its famous naval arsenal. 旅の最後に訪れたのは、有名な海軍の兵器庫を有する、広島県の港町、呉。
The shipyards at Kure built over 122 ships for the World War II Imperial Japanese Navy, including the famous IJN aircraft carriers Akagi and Soryu. 呉の造船所では、第二次世界大戦中、帝国海軍のために122隻以上の船を生み出しました。中には、かの有名な旧日本海軍の航空母艦、赤城や蒼龍もありました。
But the most famous ship ever built here was the Yamato, the largest battleship ever constructed. しかし、ここで造られた最も有名な船は、最大の軍艦、大和でしょう。
The Yamato Museum opened in 2005 and features a spectacular 1/10th scale model of the battleship. 大和博物館が2005年に開館し、大和の10分の1スケールのすごいモデルもおさめられています。
There are various military aircraft on display and even some artifacts salvaged from the Yamato itself, in 2015. 多くの軍機も展示され、2015年に大和から引き上げられた飛行機まで見ることができます。
It's a very interesting museum, although I wish they had a little more English available to explain the exhibits. 英語の説明不足が否めないものの、なかなか見所のある博物館です。
In total, I drove over 1400km on this very fun Golden Week trip to western Japan! 今回の西日本ゴールデンウィークの旅で、私は全部で1400km運転しました。
PS> On my way home, I bumped into The Knight Rider's K.I.T.T. at a highway rest stop ... apparently he lives in Yamaguchi Prefecture these days. 追伸；帰り道、私は高速の休憩地でナイトライダーの車、KITTに行き合いました。どうやら、最近は山口県におすまいのようです。

エド・シーラン とワンオク！ Ed Sheeran & ONE OK ROCK≫

行ってきました、4/23、大阪ドームのエド・シーラン ディバイド ワールド ツアー！On April 23rd I took a trip to the Osaka Dome for the Ed Sheeran Divide World Tour 2019!
ギター１本とリズムだけ、あとは歌声で勝負というパフォーマンスに、私たちは最初から完全に魂を持って行かれました！His performance was totally soul-stirring even though he sings only with a guitar and rhythm section, his voice was amazing.
グラミー賞受賞アルバム「ディバイド」は、Spotifyの過去10年間を振り返るランキングで、「世界で最も再生されたアルバム１位」を獲得。His Grammy Award winning album 'Divide' won Spotify’s 'Most Streamed Album in The World'.
アルバム収録曲のShape Of Youは、「歴代最も再生された楽曲１位」とのこと。And the song 'Shape Of You' on the album won “Most Streamed Song Ever'.
そんな歴史的な記録を次々と塗り替えるアーティストは、意外にも謙虚でキュートでした。This artist, who has broken multiple historical records, was unexpectedly humble and cute.
2012年に、初めて大阪のタワーレコードを訪れていた自分が、まさか今回ドームでライブをするなんて、と喜びと驚きを語っていました。He told us how he was grateful and surprised at being on the stage at Osaka Dome, remembering when he was at Tower Records during his first visit to Osaka in 2012.
大スクリーンに映し出された汗だくの笑顔で、一曲ごとに語りかけてくれました。He talked to us on the screen with a big sweaty smile after each song.
日本が大好きだと繰り返し言っていましたが、その理由のひとつは、観客が素晴らしいからだと。He repeatedly said he loves Japan and one of the reasons is the audience.
盛り上げたいところで盛り上がってくれて、「静かにね」と言えばバラードを静か〜に聴いてくれるから。When he wants things to heat up, we get excited but when he wants silence, we keep quiet and listen to his ballads.
前座のワンオク(ワンオクが前座という、あり得ない贅沢ですが！)のタカが、「日本の観客は静かだって言われてるから、エドが登場したら盛り上げてくださいね！」なんて言ってましたが。Taka, vocalist of ONE OK ROCK (unbelievable that such a popular band plays the opening act!) said, 'Please bring the concert to life as Ed has said that Japanese audiences are quiet.' but ...
そんなアドバイスはご無用、観客全員が完全にエドの世界に引き込まれていましたから。We didn’t need any advice as we were already completely pulled into his world.
ところで、今回のアジアツアー10公演にワンオクがサポートアクトとして登場するとのこと。It seems ONE OK ROCK is joining Ed Sheeran’s 10 concert Asian tour.
彼らの世界での今後の活躍も、目が離せないですね。We can’t take our eyes off their future world activities either.
