曜変天目茶碗 Yohen Tenmoku Teabowl≫

4月の第三日曜日、滋賀県は琵琶湖の南にあるMIHO MUSEUM に行ってきました。On the third Sunday in April, I visited the Miho Museum just south of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture.
今、茶の湯ファンの間で話題になっている、国宝 曜変天目茶碗の一つが、大徳寺龍光院からお出ましだというのです。A current hot topic among Japanese tea fans, the National Treasure Yohen Tenmoku teabowl from Daitokuji Temple Ryuko-in was on exhibition there.
曜変天目は、中国福建省で南宋時代に大量に焼かれた茶碗のうち、偶然窯内で美しい結晶が生じたものです。The Yuhen Tenmoku is a type of teabowl that was made in Fujian Province, China and has unusual crystalline patterns that spontaneously appear during the kiln firing process in large numbers.
天目茶碗の故郷である中国には、破片は残っているものの、完成形はひとつもないとのこと。It seems there is no perfect example in China, only some broken relics, though they were originally created there.
一方で、アンティークとして室町時代に日本に渡ったもののうち、三つだけが残り、現在国宝として同時期に、東京、滋賀、奈良の三箇所で公開されているのです！On the other hand, some of the bowls were brought to Japan as antiques during the Muromachi Era and three of them still exist as national treasures. They are all now currently on exhibit in Tokyo, Shiga, and Nara respectively.
30分待ちでご対面できたこちらの曜変天目は、他の二つと比べると静かで「詫びた」佇まいだと表現されているようです。After a 30 minute wait we could see the Yohen Tenmoku teabowl, often described as quiet and wabi looking.
碗の中を覗き込むと、暗い宇宙に銀の斑紋が…その中に青、紫、緑、黄色の光が放たれていました。Looking into the bowl, I could see silver stars of blue, purple, green, and yellow colors with a dark outer space.
春の陽気の中、初めて訪れたMIHO MUSEUMは、咲き誇る枝垂れ桜に囲まれて、建物の内外、エリア全体を楽しめる場所でした。On this warm spring day, it was my first visit to MIHO MUSEUM which is surrounded by beautiful weeping sakura trees in bloom, and I found the museum enjoyable both inside and out.
フランス、ルーブル美術館のガラスのピラミッドを設計したI.M.ペイが手掛けたこの美術館、桃源郷の物語を具現化したものだそうです。I.M. Pei, the architect who designed the Louvre Pyramid in France, designed the museum building to realize the story of Togenkyo.
美術館のアプローチロードである長いトンネルは、桃源郷へ続く洞窟なのです。The long tunnel approach road to the museum represents 'the cave which leads to Togenkyo'.
美しい枝垂れ桜は、桃の代わりだそうです。The beautiful weeping sakura trees substitute for the peach blossoms in the story.
私たちは、混雑したレストランを避けて外でランチピクニック。We avoided the crowded restaurant and enjoyed a picnic lunch outside.
さて、あと二つの曜変天目を見に、奈良と東京へいきますかどうか…！？Hmm ... should we go to Nara and Tokyo and see the other two Yohen Tenmoku teabowl exhibitions !?
