Long time no blogging for me! I'm going to start again ... 長いこと休んでしまったブログ！また再会しようと思います…
I went to U2 Kanaya Cafe Unautre last weekend in Shimada on my new scooter. 先週末、僕の新しいスクーターで、島田市にあるU2カナヤカフェ ユノートルに行ってきました。
The cafe is about 2 years old and opened during the corona pandemic. このカフェ、コロナ禍にオープンして2年くらい経つらしい。
It's located in an old refurbished storehouse and is part of a group of businesses that also do photo studio work and sweets. 古い改装された倉庫の中にあって、写真館の仕事やスイーツも手がける企業グループの一部なんです。
The interior is designed in a rustic, cozy style with lots of plants and has a warm atmosphere. インテリアは素朴で居心地の良いスタイルで、植物が多くて暖かい雰囲気。
There is original coffee for sale which they roast themselves on their roaster high above the kitchen. キッチンの上にあるロースターで焙煎した、オリジナルコーヒーも販売されていますよ。
Lots of funky plants hanging on the wall. たくさんのファンキーな植物が壁に掛かってます。
For lunch there was a beef bowl ... ランチは、牛丼と…
... and some cool temperature spaghetti that was a perfect match for the hot summer weather. ... 暑い夏にぴったりの、冷製スパゲッティもありました。

Over the last year, restaurants around the world have had a tough time due to the drop in business from the Covid 19 pandemic. すでに1年以上、新型コロナウイルスの流行によって、世界中のレストランが事業の落ち込みによって散々な目にあっています。
The restaurants in downtown Hamamatsu City have been struggling too with some places closing and declaring bankruptcy. 浜松市街地のレストランの中にも閉店に追い込まれたり破産宣言をする店舗もあり、苦戦しています。
A friend of mine and his wife own a place called Hanchar's in the downtown area and they recently started serving lunch. 街中でハンチャーズというレストランを経営している僕の友人ご夫妻が、最近ランチ営業を始めました。
I went last weekend and I'll be going again during the week too! 僕は先週末に行ってみたのですが、平日にも行きたいと思ってます！
The food has always been great here and for lunch I had a hamburg steak in a balsamic red wine sauce. ここの料理はいつも素晴らしいのですが、この日のランチではバルサミコ赤ワインソースのハンバーグステーキをいただきました。
It's like a higher class Sawayaka! “さわやか"のハンバーグの上級クラスといったところかな！
Salad and drink also included in the lunch set ... yum! ランチセットにはサラダと飲み物も含まれてます…美味しい！

hygge ヒュッゲ

Today I decided to break my diet in order to visit a new restaurant in Iwata City.今日は、磐田市にオープンした新しいレストランに行くので、僕のダイエットはお休みすることに決めました。
The place is called hygge and its located in the Iwata tea farm plateau area north of Lalaport Iwata. レストランの名前はヒュッゲ、場所はららぽーと磐田の北にある茶農家台地の中です。
It opened just this month in a renovated old farmhouse. 古い農家を改築したこちらのレストラン、今月オープンしたばかりです。
The place looks great inside and the food was very good too. 内装はすばらしく、料理もとっても美味しかったです。
I had a salad appetizer. 前菜にはサラダをいただきました。
A hamburg steak main course but I asked for a only a small portion of rice. ハンバーグがメインのコースでしたが、僕はライスの量を控えめにお願いしました。
And cheesecake for dessert. デザートはチーズケーキ。
It was very delicious but I only ate half ... diet dayo. すごく美味しかったんだけど、半分だけ食べました…ダイエットだよ。
The building has two floors with lots of open space and the outside deck area looks very comfortable too. 二階建ての開放的な建物で、外のデッキ席も居心地良さそうでした。
Actually the word 'hygge' is from the Danish language and in Denmark has a meaning of comfort, coziness, and contentment. 実は「ヒュッゲ」というのはデンマーク語で、心地良さ、和やかさ、幸福感を表します。
Very true of hygge restaurant in Iwata! 磐田にある、まさにヒュッゲなレストラン！
After lunch I rode my bicycle through the green tea fields nearby towards the Tenryu River. 昼食の後は自転車で、近くにある天竜川まで、茶畑を走り抜けました。
Along the Tenryu River bank the Japanese pampas grass was swaying in the wind. 天竜川の岸辺には、ススキが風になびいていました。
A sure sign of autumn. 秋ですなぁ。
In total, I rode just over 71km today and included a little extra distance around Lake Sanaru as a penalty for eating cheesecake on my diet. 今日は合計71キロを自転車で走りました。チーズケーキを食べたペナルティとして、佐鳴湖一周分の距離も足しました。

おやつ屋 Micoppe カップケーキ

Recently I'm on a calorie restricted diet but I went to see a sweet shop in Mori Town today. 最近の僕はカロリー制限ダイエット中なんだけど、今日は森町にあるスウィーツショップに行っちゃった。
The weather was so nice I decided to ride my scooter. お天気がめっちゃ良かったから、スクーターで行ってきたよ。
The place is called Oyatsuya Micoppe and it located in the old downtown area of Mori Town. お店の名前は おやつ屋ミコッペ、森町の古い街並みにあります。
Previously, Micoppe was in Fukuroi but the clerk said they moved to this location about 3 years ago. 以前は袋井にあったミコッペ、定員さんが言うには3年ほど前に現在の場所に引越してきたとか。
They have a fairly large assortment of sweets for sale ... very colourful! かなりの種類のスウィーツが販売されています…カラフルだなぁ！
The interior is very stylishly designed too. インテリアもとってもオシャレ。
When I visited there were six different typse of Halloween-themed cupcakes on offer. 僕が行った時には、6種類のハロウィン用のカップケーキがありました。
So I ordered one of each for take-out. それぞれ1個ずつテイクアウト で注文。
I ate two of them and they tasted great! そのうち2つ食べてみたよ、美味しい！
I'll do a little extra exercise today so I don't ruin my diet. ダイエットが台無しにならないように、今日は多めに運動しなくちゃ。

Time Drip Coffee 浜名湖ガーデンパーク

I went for a short minivelo ride at Hamamatsu Garden Park this afternoon. 今日の午後、浜名湖ガーデンパークまで短距離ミニベロサイクリングに出かけました。
The weather was perfect at Lake Hamana. 浜名湖のお天気は完璧でした。
My purpose was to visit a cafe in the parking lot area. 僕の目的は、駐車場内にあるカフェに行くこと。
Time Drip Coffee relocated from downtown Hamamatsu City last April. 浜松市街にあったタイムドリップコーヒーが、４月にこちらに引っ越してきたのです。
The new cafe is made of containers and is very stylish and spacious. 新しいカフェは、コンテナで出来ていて、広々してオシャレ。
Their new logo looks great too... he made my coffee! 新しいロゴもいい感じ！彼が僕のコーヒーを淹れてくれました。
I had a perfect ice coffee made with Colombian beans. コロンビア産の豆で淹れてもらった完璧なアイスコーヒーを飲みました。
The deck is very large and is a great place to relax and take a break. デッキは広くて、ゆっくり休憩するには最適です。
Nice place! いいところだなぁ！
I bought some beans to take home so we'll been enjoying them at PoPBunka! this week. 持ち帰りでコーヒー豆を買ってきたので、今週のポップブンカ！でこちらのコーヒーが楽しめますよ。
Time Drip Coffee is closed on Wednesdays and rainy days. タイムドリップコーヒーは水曜日と雨の日がお休みです。

Yesterday Hamamatsu City announced that businesses can slowly begin to reopen. 昨日から浜松市では、徐々に事業を再開する店舗が見られました。
So today I went to visit a new cafe called 'REANDY' that opened last March in Yuto Town. そこで今日、私は雄踏町のリアンディという３月にオープンしたばかりのカフェに行ってきました。
The facade of the main cafe building is covered in various antique doors and windows from around the world. ビル正面のファサードには、世界中から集められた沢山の窓やドアが付けられており、
It's a very impressive looking design! とても素晴らしく印象的なデザインでした。
The interior of the cafe is equally impressive, the roof structure in particular looks very traditional. 中のインテリアも素晴らしく、特に屋根の構造はとても伝統的なスタイルです。
The interior is full of rustic knick knacks and other antique items. インテリアのアイテムには、アンティーク風で使い古した道具が沢山置いてありました。
Unfortunately, the inside area of the cafe was closed due to social distancing rules so I was only able to look in through the doors and windows. 今回は残念ながら、コロナウィルス感染防止で、店内飲食はできなかったため、外のドアと窓から内装を観察しました。
But the space is large and the furniture looks quite comfortable. ただ、お店のスペースはかなり広く、中に置いてある家具等もとても心地良さそうです。
'Reandy' is part of a company that specializes in container-based buildings and behind the main building there is another area of the cafe. リアンディはコンテナを活用したスペース作りを専門としている会社で、カフェ建物の裏側にも外で楽しめるスペースがありました。
This area is built from containers and is meant to showcase the company's main business ... it looks great too! このエリアはコンテナ事業のモデルルームとしても使われているようです。
The roof of the containers has been set up as a patio with nice views. コンテナの屋根部分は、テラスとして使えるように設計されていて見晴らしも良いです。
Inside the containers there are various rooms like an antique collection room and a book library. コンテナの中は、いくつかの部屋が作られており、アンティークグッズやライブラリーもあって面白いスペースです。
I'm looking forward to returning here later when the cafe is fully open. 次回は是非、店内で食事ができ、お店のインテリアもじっくりと見れることを楽しみにしています。

It was rainy and miserable today but I went out to Callies Grilled Sandwich cafe for lunch. 今日は丸一日ひどい雨でしたが、キャリーズ グリルサンドイッチというカフェにランチを食べに行ってきました。
The place is located along the Hime Kaido near the Kanjosen oribital road. お店の場所は、環状線近くの姫街道にあります。
Callies opened just last December 10th and I've been looking forward to visiting for a few months now. 昨年の12月10日にオープンしたらしく、以前から気になっていたカフェの一つです。
Inside the cafe feels like a time travel trip back into the 1950s American diner culture. 店の内装は1950年代のアメリカンダイナーを感じさせる雰囲気がありました。
For lunch, I had the 'Callies Sandwich' and a 'Pastrami & Basil' sandwich too ... I was very hungry! 朝から何も食べていなかったため、今日は、お店の定番メニューのキャリーズサンドイッチと、ペストラミ＆バジルサンドイッチの２つを試してみました。
Both sandwiches were excellent and I was very satisfied! グリルサンドイッチの専門店だけあって、両方とも焼き加減がちょうど良く、とても美味しくて大満足でした。
The French Toast for dessert was also very good! Recommended! フレンチトーストもデザートとして食べてみましたが、これもまたとても美味しかったです。
When the weather gets better in the spring, I'm looking forward to cycling up to Callies for lunch on Sundays. 天気が良い日に、次はここまで自転車で来て、またランチが出来たら良いと思います。
It seems like Callies doesn't have a proper webpage but they do have an instagram account. キャリーズの公式インスタグラムはこちらです！

先週末、所用で上京した折に以前から気になっていた西荻窪に寄ってみました。I went to Tokyo last weekend for business and I visited a place I've been interested in for a while now at Nishiogikubo.
とある音楽家ご夫妻の、築80年を越える住宅を引き継いで7年前にオープンしたという、ギャラリー&ブックカフェ松庵文庫に行ってみました。The place is called Shoan Bunko Gallery & Book Cafe and was originally a musician couple’s 80-year-old house. It opened as a cafe 7 years ago.
「文庫」という言葉を「学びの場」と捉え、「本」が智慧の宝庫であるように、「人」もまた智慧の宝庫である、という考えがカフェの名前の由来だそうです。
They liked the word 'Bunko Llibrary' as a place for studying so they named the cafe after it as they felt books are full of wisdom and people are too.
人が集い、智慧が積み重なっていく「文庫」が、子どもたちの時代の豊かさにつながれば、という願いが込められているそうで、素敵なネーミングですね！People gather at the 'Bunko Llibrary' where wisdom is in stock, helping to enrich the next generation of children ... a very nice name indeed!
私たちはランチに「本日のお米御膳」をいただきました。We had the 'Daily Special' rice lunch.
味わい深い七分づき米と、お出汁の効いた優しい白味噌のお味噌汁。It was made with 70% polished rice and a light, but rich white miso broth.
そして、噂どおり丁寧に作られた野菜中心のお料理の数々が… And as I had heard, there were many vegetable dishes served too ...
山椒、ミツバ、すだち、干し椎茸、ひじき…沢山の和の食材が活かされた品々はどれも素晴らしく美味しい！Sansho, Mitsuba parsley, Sudachi, dried shiitake mushrooms, and Hijiki seaweed ... everything was very delicious, taking full advantage of these Japanese ingredients!
店内の書籍は、自由にテーブルに持ち込んで読めるそうです。We can freely read the books in the cafe at our tables.
入り口横には、キャンドルやリネンなどを販売するショップもあり、ギフトにも良さそうな素敵な生活雑貨が並んでいました。The shop by the entrance sells candles, linen, and more ... maybe good as gifts.
上京するチャンスがあれば、再度訪れたいカフェでした。I’d love to visit there again the next time I go to Tokyo.

Cafe Sukka 喫茶スッカ

Last week I drove to over to Yokosuka Town in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. 先週、静岡県掛川市にある横須賀町までドライブをしました。
A relative of one of our students took over a cafe in an old house and I was interested to see it. 生徒さんのご親戚が、古いお家を使ったカフェを譲り受けたということで、見てみたいなと思い、出向いたわけです。
Cafe Sukka is located in the downtown area of Yokosuka along one of the main streets. 喫茶スッカは大通り沿いの下町地域にあります。
I had a great tasting coffee, a chicken pita sandwich, and some cheesecake for lunch ... all good! お昼に、素晴らしい味わいのコーヒー、チキンピタサンド、そしてチーズケーキをいただきました…どれもこれも美味しかった！
On the way home I stopped in for matcha tea and sweets at the Shimizu Teahouse and Garden located just near Cafe Sukka. 帰り道、喫茶スッカからほど近い、清水邸庭園と茶室の湧水亭に、お抹茶とお菓子をいただきに寄りました。
I've been here a few time sand always enjoy the Omotesenke style tea ceremony. こちらにはなんどかお邪魔していますが、表千家のお手前をいつも楽しませていただいています。
The trees in garden were still showing their bright red autumn colours and the atmosphere was very tranquil inside and out. お庭の木々は鮮やかに紅葉していて、心も体も穏やかにしてくれるような感じでした。

The pond was full of koi carp and was quite mesmerising to watch too. 池にはたくさん鯉がいて、見る者を楽しませてくれました。
If you're interested in visiting Cafe Sukka it's best to check as they have an irregular business schedule. 喫茶スッカに行ってみたい！という方は、不定期営業のため、事前に確認されることをおすすめします。

Beautiful weather today so I decided to ride out to a cafe that I had heard about before ... 今日はお天気も良いので、かねてより耳にしておりましたカフェにちょっとバイクでお出かけ。
Stationary Cafe Konohi is in Kakegawa City, very near Ikoinohiroba Station on the Tenhamasen Line. ステーショナリーカフェコノヒは掛川市内、天竜浜名湖線いこいの広場駅すぐ近くにあります。
The cafe is in a renovated country house on a corner lot with plenty of parking. このカフェは古民家をリノベートしたもので、駐車スペースもたっぷり取っています。

It opened about five years ago. 約５年前にオープンしました。
The entranceway reminds me of an old school building ... この玄関、古い学校を想わせます。
... and once inside you are immediately confronted with lots of old style stationary items. All for sale! そして中にお邪魔すると、ドッと懐かしい感じの文具が押し寄せてきます。全て売り物です！
They even have an old Olivetti Valentine typewriter ... a design classic! 古いオリベッティ・バレンタインのタイプライターまでありますよ…クラッシックなデザイン！
Pens and pencils are everywhere, with all kinds of old style stationary on the tables. ペンや鉛筆が至るところにあり、また様々な懐かしい型の文具がテーブルに並べられています。
Why is stationary so interesting to look at anyways? なんで文具ってついつい見てしまうのでしょうね。
My purpose was to have lunch so I took a window seat and ordered some food. 私の目的はランチ。窓際の席に着き、注文をしました。
My appetizer was a delicious vegetable soup, suitable on this mild autumn day. 前菜は、こんなあったかな秋の日にピッタリのお野菜のスープ。
The main course was a simple ham sandwich with melted cheese ... not bad! 主菜はとろけたチーズとハムのシンプルなサンドイッチ…いい感じ！
And for dessert I had an old-style melon soda float ... looked good and tasted good too. デザートは、昔スタイルのクリームソーダ…見た目もお味も結構でございました。
Stationary Cafe Konohi is an interesting little spot out in the countryside of Kakegawa ... a nice place to visit! ステーショナリーカフェコノヒは掛川の片田舎にある小さな楽しい所です…是非お立ち寄りを！

Kushitani Cafe Kanzanji クシタニカフェ舘山寺

This afternoon I visited the new Kushitani Cafe in Kanzanji, near Lake Hamana. 今日の午後、浜名湖近くの舘山寺に、新たにオープンしたクシタニ カフェに行ってきました。
The cafe is on the main road in a renovated Showa Era building and opened just last week. カフェは、メイン通りに面した昭和時代の建物を改築して、先週オープンしたばかりです。
Surprisingly, there were quite a few people there on a Wednesday afternoon at 3pm. 驚いたことに、水曜日の午後3時だというのに、お客さんが大勢いました。
Obviously, the Kushitani brand caters to motorcycle riders and many bikes were parked outside. クシタニは、正にバイクライダーのニーズに応えるブランドとあって、外には沢山のバイクが停められていました。
The cafe is quite nice inside and out, following the retro-industrial, raw material style commonly found in many of today's cafes. 内装も外観もとっても素敵。流行のレトロ風な作りで、最近いろんなカフェでよく見られるような素朴な素材を使っています。
The upstairs seating area retains the beautiful old style wood log beamwork that supports the roof. 二階の座席フロアには、美しい年代物の丸太の梁が残されていて、屋根を支えているんですね。
Kushitani is a famous Hamamatsu company which specializes in high performance motorcycle wear, especially full-body leather racing suits. クシタニは高性能のバイクウエア、特にフルボディ レザーレーシングスーツに特化した浜松では有名な会社です。
Some of their famous 1980s and 1990s motorcycle racing suits are on display on the second floor. 1980年代、1990年代の有名なレーシングスーツは、二階にディスプレイされています。
I remember watching Wayne Gardner and Randy Momola racing 500cc Grand Prix when I was a junior high school boy in Canada. 僕がカナダで中学生だったころ、ワイン・ガードナーとランディ・マモラの500ccグランプリ レースを観たことを、今でも覚えています。
Their race suits are on the wall here ... fond memories. 彼らのレーススーツが、ここの壁に飾られているなんて… 楽しい思い出だなぁ。
The Kushitani Cafe building recently underwent extensive earthquake proofing as part of a Kanzanji revitalization project. クシタニカフェは最近、舘山寺の町の活性化プロジェクトの一環で、耐震工事が施されたところです。
Previously, a souvenir shop called Fujinoya was located here as you can see in the picture below ... interesting stuff! 以前こちらには、写真でご覧の通り土産店の藤野屋さんがあったんです… 面白いなぁ！

先月豊橋市にオープンしたばかりのカフェ、パーラーHanakoに行ってきました。I went to Parlor Hanako cafe which opened last month in Toyohashi City.
以前の生徒さん、現在はドイツでダンサーとして活躍中のサナちゃんが一時帰国中ということで、彼女と一緒に。I went with a former student Sana who now lives in Germany as a dancer, as she’s back in Japan for the holidays.
豊橋駅近くの飲食店が並ぶ通り、黒いA看板を目印にお店を見つけ、階段を登ると、予想通りの可愛いカフェを発見。On a street with many bars and restaurants near Toyohashi station, we found the black A-shaped board, went upstairs and arrived at a cute cafe ... just as we had imagined.
片側の壁紙はウイリアム・モリスのいちご泥棒、白い壁には一面にドライフラワーが！On one side of the room was William Morris’s 'Strawberry Thief' wallpaper and the other white walls had dried flowers all over!

大きな桃パフェ、程よい甘さでペロリと食べてしまいました、美味しい！The large peach parfait was mildly sweet and very good so I ate it quickly!
桃のオープンサンドや、バナナやキウイ、イチジクなど、他のフルーツを使った飲み物も、次回試してみたいなぁ。Next time I’d like to try the open peach sandwich and other drinks made with bananas, kiwis, and figs ...
甘いパフェの後のコーヒーが、これまたスッキリ格別でした。The coffee after the parfait was also very good and refreshing.
内装もメニューの内容も、女子受け間違い無しのパーラー、デートにもよいかも。This is a good place for a date as girls absolutely love the interior, food, and drinks.
土日のみの営業、オープン時間は12時〜17時です、お気をつけくださいね。 Be careful as it’s open Saturdays and Sundays only from 12pm to 5pm.

先月豊橋市にオープンしたばかりのカフェ、パーラーHanakoに行ってきました。I went to Parlor Hanako cafe which opened last month in Toyohashi City.
以前の生徒さん、現在はドイツでダンサーとして活躍中のサナちゃんが一時帰国中ということで、彼女と一緒に。I went with a former student Sana who now lives in Germany as a dancer, as she’s back in Japan for the holidays.
豊橋駅近くの飲食店が並ぶ通り、黒いA看板を目印にお店を見つけ、階段を登ると、予想通りの可愛いカフェを発見。On a street with many bars and restaurants near Toyohashi station, we found the black A-shaped board, went upstairs and arrived at a cute cafe ... just as we had imagined.
片側の壁紙はウイリアム・モリスのいちご泥棒、白い壁には一面にドライフラワーが！On one side of the room was William Morris’s 'Strawberry Thief' wallpaper and the other white walls had dried flowers all over!

Okashi no Mori Storehouse Cafe お菓子の森＆蔵のカフェ

Today, I visited another cafe in Hamamatsu City called Okashi no Mori Kura Cafe. 今日は、浜松市内にあるカフェ、お菓子の森&蔵のカフェさんに行ってきました。
Okashi no Mori Kura Cafe is located in an reformed old storehouse in Wada Town, on the east side of Hamamatsu. お菓子の森&蔵のカフェは、浜松東部和田町のリフォームした古いお蔵にあります。
This cafe is connected with the cafe of the same name at Nukumori no Mori in western Hamamatsu. こちらのカフェは、浜松西部のぬくもりの森にある、同じ名前なカフェの系列店です。
There are a few old buildings at the cafe site in various states of repair. カフェの敷地内には、修復された、または修復途中の古い建物がいくつかあります。
The cafe is located in a beautifully renovated storehouse just near the entrance to the parking lot. カフェは、駐車場の入り口すぐ近くの、美しく改装された蔵にあります。
Inside everything is clean and new but still traditional and rustic. 中も、全てが清潔かつ美しく、でも同時に伝統的で鄙びた風情です。
The storehouse building is about 190-years-old and upstairs you can see a small plaque that was signed by the original carpenter. 蔵は、築約190年で、上階には、蔵を建てた大工さんが残した額もあります。
You can also see the renovation work where new wood has been seamlessly matched with the original structure ... very interesting! また、新しい木材が元々の構造にぴったり合わされた、改築の跡も見てとることが出来ます…面白い！
The upstairs seating area has been beautifully redone so I decided to stay for a while. 上階の席も美しく作りかえられていたので、ちょっとゆっくりさせてもらうことにしました。
I ordered an ice coffee and three different desserts ... the spoons were edible too! アイスコーヒーと、３種のデザートを注文…スプーンまで食べられるの！
Everything I had was delicious and I enjoyed tasting the history here too. いただいた物は全部美味しかったですし、歴史の味わいも楽しませていただきました。

I visited an interesting cafe called Marutakedo Coffee in Sanarudai today. 今日は佐鳴台にある興味深いカフェ、まるたけ堂 珈琲さんにお邪魔してきました。
The cafe opened in a new building in March of 2018 and it looks beautiful. 2018年3月に新築オープンしたというこちらのカフェ、全てが美しいのです。
The owner has taken meticulous care to make sure everything is perfect. こちらのご主人が入念に選んだ品々はどれも完璧なものばかり。
The interior of the cafe is full of gorgeous Danish antique furniture so be careful not to spill your coffee! 店内は、素晴らしいデンマーク製ヴィンテージ物の家具でいっぱいです。だから、コーヒーをこぼしたりしちゃダメですよ！
I sat in a comfy seat looking out into a traditional style mini courtyard garden. 僕は、伝統的な造りの坪庭が臨める、心地良い席に座らせていただきました。
In an attached building across from the cafe called Kutsurogi-an, special events like yoga are regularly held. カフェに隣接する建物"くつろぎ庵"では、定期的にヨガクラスなどが開催されているようです。
The cheesecake and strait black coffee were both delicious. チーズケーキと、ブラックコーヒー、どちらも絶品でした。
Marutakedo Coffee is an pleasurable place to visit for both your mouth and your eyes ... check it out! まるたけ堂 珈琲さん、目にもお口にも美味しい素敵な場所です。是非お試しあれ！

先週、新居町のカフェつっつさんで、評茶師Jeni先生の中国茶会に行ってきました。Last week, I went to a Chinese tea event organized by tea artist Jani at Cafe Tsuttsu in Arai Town.
カフェに入ると、既にテーブルには可愛らしい茶碗やポットなど、道具が綺麗に並べられていました。As I walked into the cafe, cute tea cups, tea pots, and other tea tools were beautifully laid out on the table.
半発酵されたウーロン茶には、茶葉の発酵の度合いにより様々な種類があります。The various types of oolong tea depend upon how long each of the tea leaves have been fermented.
ウーロン茶についてさほど詳しくない私には、先ず人気ナンバーワンの四季春がおススメということでした。She recommended the No.1 popular Shikiharu (Four Seasons Spring) to me as I don’t know much about oolong tea.
無発酵の緑茶寄りで、色は明るく、まろやか〜な甘みと華やかな香りがあります。This tea is closest to non-fermented green tea and has a light colour, mellow sweetness, and gorgeous aroma.
一瞬で私は四季春のファンになってしまいました！I instantly fell in love with this tea!
とっても小さなカップと、沸かしたての湯を使って、三煎まで淹れていただきましたが、葉の量は多く、まだまだ何煎もいけそうでした。Using tiny cups and freshly boiled water, she made a third decoction and the tea leaves were still good enough to do more.
続いて、東方美人を淹れていただきました。Next, she made Tohobijin tea.
こちらは色味が深く、ウーロン茶らしい苦味も感じる味わいでした。This tea has deeper color and a very oolong tea like bitter taste.
こちらの茶会、美味しいお茶をいただくのが目的なんですが、美しいJani先生にお会いできるのも、魅力のひとつなのだと、密かに気づいていました。This tea event was held to introduce quality tea, but I had noticed my feeling that the beautiful teacher Jani was attractive as well.
先生は、中国政府公認評茶師であり、日本メディカルハーブ協会認定のシニアハーバルセラピストでもあります。Jani is a Chinese Government official tea artist, and has senior herbal therapist certificates from the Japan Medical Herb Association.

Latte Art Research Nagoya 名古屋のラテアートリサーチ

I went to Nagoya recently to do some latte art research and to visit a museum exhibition. 最近、ラテアートの研究と美術館を訪れるために、名古屋まで行ってきました。
First stop was Sora Cafe 01 near Nagoya City Art Museum. はじめに、名古屋市美術館近くのソラカフェ01へ。

Excellent cafe latte and the staff made a nice standard tulip design. 美味しいカフェラテに、スタンダードなチューリップのラテアート。
After that, I walked over to Nagoya's Streamer coffee shop. その後は、ストリーマーコーヒーカンパニーまで歩きました。

Streamer is a nice big modern place that makes a very large and finely detailed cafe latte ... but also a little expensive. ストリーマーは、綺麗で大きなモダンな建物。とっても大きくて細部まで繊細なカフェラテを作ってくれますが、こちらも値段はちょっと高め。
Then it was real art time ... さて、ここからはホントの芸術の時間…
Nagoya City Art Museum is showing works from their permanent collection and I wanted to see their Modigliani painting. 名古屋市美術館では、現在展覧中の常設展の中の、モディリアーニの絵画を観たいと思っていました。
The painting was acquired in the early 80s for about 3 million dollars ... probably worth ten times more nowadays. 1980年代始めに、約三億円で購入されたもので、おそらく現在はその十倍の価値のようです。
They also have a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo but it's very, very small. それから、メキシコ人画家フリーダ・カーロの、とっても小さい作品もありました。
Actually, the real painting is the same size as the souvenir postcard I bought in the museum shop! 実際、作品のサイズといったら、僕がお土産にショップで買ったハガキと同じ大きさなんです。
No joking! マジで！
After the museum, I went to The Cups Cafe in the late afternoon. 美術館の後は、夕方にかけてカフェ ザ・カップスへ。

My last cafe latte for the day had the best and most intricately designed latte art. 僕のこの日最後のカフェラテは、一番美味しくて一番複雑なデザインでした。
The healthy food here was excellent too! この店のヘルシーフードも、すごく美味しかった！
All three of these places are highly recommended for coffee in Nagoya. これら三ヶ所のカフェ全て、名古屋でめっちゃオススメです。

Minna no Cafe みんなのカフェ

Near the end of last Sunday's minivelo cycling event, we stopped in at Minna no Cafe on Murakushi Beach for some coffee. 先日のミニベロサイクリングで、帰りがけに みんなのカフェむらくしビーチでコーヒー休憩しました。
A lot of people were asking about this place so we decided to post another blog about it. 多くの方からこちらの場所についてご質問がありましたので、あらためてブログに書くことにしました。
Actually, one of our PoPBunka! students was the architect for this cafe which was completed about two years ago. 実は、ここを設計した建築家はポップブンカ！の生徒さんで、2年ほど前に完成していました。
The same company has another, larger cafe of the same name on the other side of Lake Hamana with a larger selection of food and drink. 同じ会社の、同じ名前の広いカフェが湖の反対側にもありまして、そちらはフードとドリンクのメニューがより充実しています。
But the smaller Minna no Cafe on Murakushi Beach has a very nice outdoor patio with an amazing sunset view. でもね、みんなのカフェむらくしビーチの方にはとっても素敵なテラスがあって、すばらしい夕陽が見られるんです。
The red arrow above shows where to find Minna no Cafe at Murakushi Beach. みんなのカフェむらくしビーチは、この赤い矢印の場所です。
Of course it's best to call ahead to make sure the cafe is open. お出かけの前にはもちろん、カフェが営業しているか確認するとよいですよ。

Near the end of last Sunday's minivelo cycling event, we stopped in at Minna no Cafe on Murakushi Beach for some coffee. 先日のミニベロサイクリングで、帰りがけに みんなのカフェむらくしビーチでコーヒー休憩しました。
A lot of people were asking about this place so we decided to post another blog about it. 多くの方からこちらの場所についてご質問がありましたので、あらためてブログに書くことにしました。
Actually, one of our PoPBunka! students was the architect for this cafe which was completed about two years ago. 実は、ここを設計した建築家はポップブンカ！の生徒さんで、2年ほど前に完成していました。
The same company has another, larger cafe of the same name on the other side of Lake Hamana with a larger selection of food and drink. 同じ会社の、同じ名前の広いカフェが湖の反対側にもありまして、そちらはフードとドリンクのメニューがより充実しています。
But the smaller Minna no Cafe on Murakushi Beach has a very nice outdoor patio with an amazing sunset view. でもね、みんなのカフェむらくしビーチの方にはとっても素敵なテラスがあって、すばらしい夕陽が見られるんです。
The red arrow above shows where to find Minna no Cafe at Murakushi Beach. みんなのカフェむらくしビーチは、この赤い矢印の場所です。
Of course it's best to call ahead to make sure the cafe is open. お出かけの前にはもちろん、カフェが営業しているか確認するとよいですよ。

先日、有玉町界隈でランチする場所を探していると、フルッタ リストランテ ノベラという看板を見つけました。While wandering around looking for a lunch place in the Aritama town area the other day, I saw signboard for Fruta Restaurante Novela.
以前はワイズカフェだった場所、現在は果物の老舗、松本フルーツさんが、鴨江のフルーツパーラー トレピーニに次いでオープンしたレストランになっていました。A while back this place was called Waiz Cafe, but the long established famous Matsumoto Fruits now runs a restaurant here in the style of their Tre Pini gallery & fruits parlor.
メニューにはフルーツをふんだんに使ったデザートは勿論、ランチやディナーの内容も充実していました。On the menu there were not only fruit desserts but also enough plates for lunch and dinner.
私がオーダーしたスペイン風オムライスには、ゴロゴロと季節のフルーツがトッピングされていました。There were a lot of seasonal fruits on top of my Spanish omurice.
オムライスの上にドラゴンフルーツだなんて、見たことありませんでしたよ！I have never seen dragon fruit on top of omurice before!
でもフルーツの甘みと酸味って、オムライスと絶妙に合うんですね、びっくり！Surprisingly, I found the sweetness and sourness match omurice very much!
デザートにはアツアツの鉄板に乗ったフレンチトースト、こちらもフルーツ盛り盛りです。For dessert, I had hot plate French Toast with a ton of fruit on top.
メイプルシロップとマンゴーペーストと共にいただきました、幸せ〜 With maple syrup and mango pure ... so enjoyable ...
すでにまた行きたくなってます、リピーターになりそうな私です。I already feel like returning. I’ll be a repeat customer at this restaurant.

まぼろしの寿堂 Kotobuki-do: Phantom Cafe

先日、今年初の営業日という、ベーカリーカフェの寿堂さんに行ってきました。The other day, I went to Kotobuki-do, a bakery cafe which opened for the first time this year.
噂には聞いていましたが、一体いつオープンしているのか、正体不明のカフェでした。I heard of this place before but it seemed like phantom cafe as it never seemed open.
レトロチックな内装の店内に、ガタイの良いオーナー、相場さんがいらっしゃいました。Inside the retro decorated interior was the big-boned owner of the cafe Mr. Aiba.
実はファイナンシャルプランナーの彼、趣味のパン作りが高じて、カフェを開店してしまったということです。He likes baking so much that his enthusiasm led him to open this cafe although he is actually a financial planner.
私はお目当てのレモンケーキの他、売り切れ寸前のパンを何種類かゲット！I wanted and got a lemon cake and some other breads just before they all sold out!
四つ葉バターをふんだんに使ったというレモンケーキは、酸味と甘みが丁度よく、ホロホロの口どけでした。The lemon cake was made with plenty of Yotsuba butter and melted in my mouth ... it was so good, with a nice balance of sweet and sour.
今朝の朝食にいただいた、ガーリックウインナーとくるみレーズン、美味しい〜！I also ate a garlic sausage bread and walnut raisin bread for breakfast, and both were also very good!
いちじくブルーチーズマフィンは次回ワインのお供にもしたい！Next time, I’d like to try the fig blue cheese muffin with wine!
寿堂さん、現在は遠州パンまつりなど、イベントを中心にパンを焼いているそうですが… Kotobuki-do bakery is baking bread mainly for events like the Enshu Bread Festival but ...
次回の営業は8/23(木)、なんとスパイスカレーランチと焼き菓子の販売をするそうです！It’ll be open on August 23rd again to serve spicy curry lunches and other baked sweets!

Summer vacation 2018 has started and it's scorching hot outside! 2018年の夏休みが始まりました。外は焦げるような暑さですね！
So the best thing to do in these crazy times is to eat kakigori. こんな猛暑日には、かき氷を食べるのが一番です。
After lunch today I visited a unique-looking teahouse in Kamigaya Town, in the west of Hamamatsu City. 今日は昼食後に、浜松市西区神ヶ谷町にあるユニークなデザインのお茶家さんに行ってきました。
The cafe is called Kanegon and is part of a 120-year-old family tea business.「かねごん」という名前のカフェ、120年もの歴史を持つお茶屋さんの一部です。
So of course I tried the macha kakigori and it was excellent! だから僕はもちろん、抹茶のかき氷を試してみました。美味しかったー！！
It was soooo hot that I also tried a hojicha kakigori too ... yum! むちゃくちゃ暑かったので、ほうじ茶かき氷もおかわりしました…うまい！
If you're interested in having tea-flavoured kakigori done in an elegant way, then visit Kanegon teahouse. もし優雅なお茶風味かき氷をお探しでしたら、かねごん茶家に行ってみてください。
I'll be back there again soon ... 僕もまたすぐに行こうかな。。。
