Last month, one of Hamamatsu City's last public baths closed for good. 先月、浜松市最後の銭湯が残念ながら閉店しました。
Tomoeyu Public Bath in Daikumachi originally opened way back in 1947. 大工町の銭湯、巴湯は、1947年に開店しました。
I've been to many super-sentos but this was my first visit to a local neighborhood bath and it was interesting. これまで多くのスーパー銭湯を訪れましたが、巴湯は私にとって初めての地元の銭湯で興味深い所でした。
There was no shower, no soap, no shampoo, and the hot and cold water were on separate taps. シャワーもない、石鹸もない、シャンプーもない。そして、蛇口も水とお湯に分かれている。
And everything was very, very small. そして、全てが、めっちゃくちゃ、小さい。
While I was there a TV crew from Shizuoka Daiichi TV was shooting a story about Tomoeyu. 私が巴湯にいる時にちょうど、静岡第一テレビが撮影に来ていました。
The reporter asked me a few questions while I was bathing ... my first nude TV appearance. 私が湯船につかっているときに、レポーターからインタビューを受けました…初めてテレビにヌード出演しちゃいました。
I stayed for about 30 minutes ... just a quick in and out. 30分ほどいて、さっと出ました。
The next weekend I returned to Tomoeyu to see an original wall painting that had been covered over for many years. 翌週 も巴湯を訪れ、今度は長年浴室を飾っていた壁絵を見ました。
The bath was closed and the building was being demolished. 巴湯は閉店し、建物もすでに解体中です。
The painting was revealed after removing part of the east wall and was being shown for only two days. 壁絵は東側の壁の一部を取り除いたことで露わになり、2日間だけ見ることができました。
The two section picture was done in 1954 by a Yokohama painter named Amagasa and shows a view of Atami. 二分割された絵は横浜の天笠という絵師によって、1954年に描かれました。
I was happy to see this little part of Hamamatsu history but also a little sad to see it disappear. 浜松市の歴史の一部に触れられたことを幸運に思うとともに、それが消えていくのを目にするのはさみしいものです。
