先週末、所用で上京した折に以前から気になっていた西荻窪に寄ってみました。I went to Tokyo last weekend for business and I visited a place I've been interested in for a while now at Nishiogikubo.
とある音楽家ご夫妻の、築80年を越える住宅を引き継いで7年前にオープンしたという、ギャラリー&ブックカフェ松庵文庫に行ってみました。The place is called Shoan Bunko Gallery & Book Cafe and was originally a musician couple’s 80-year-old house. It opened as a cafe 7 years ago.
「文庫」という言葉を「学びの場」と捉え、「本」が智慧の宝庫であるように、「人」もまた智慧の宝庫である、という考えがカフェの名前の由来だそうです。
They liked the word 'Bunko Llibrary' as a place for studying so they named the cafe after it as they felt books are full of wisdom and people are too.
人が集い、智慧が積み重なっていく「文庫」が、子どもたちの時代の豊かさにつながれば、という願いが込められているそうで、素敵なネーミングですね！People gather at the 'Bunko Llibrary' where wisdom is in stock, helping to enrich the next generation of children ... a very nice name indeed!
私たちはランチに「本日のお米御膳」をいただきました。We had the 'Daily Special' rice lunch.
味わい深い七分づき米と、お出汁の効いた優しい白味噌のお味噌汁。It was made with 70% polished rice and a light, but rich white miso broth.
そして、噂どおり丁寧に作られた野菜中心のお料理の数々が… And as I had heard, there were many vegetable dishes served too ...
山椒、ミツバ、すだち、干し椎茸、ひじき…沢山の和の食材が活かされた品々はどれも素晴らしく美味しい！Sansho, Mitsuba parsley, Sudachi, dried shiitake mushrooms, and Hijiki seaweed ... everything was very delicious, taking full advantage of these Japanese ingredients!
店内の書籍は、自由にテーブルに持ち込んで読めるそうです。We can freely read the books in the cafe at our tables.
入り口横には、キャンドルやリネンなどを販売するショップもあり、ギフトにも良さそうな素敵な生活雑貨が並んでいました。The shop by the entrance sells candles, linen, and more ... maybe good as gifts.
上京するチャンスがあれば、再度訪れたいカフェでした。I’d love to visit there again the next time I go to Tokyo.
