My niece Zelda has long, naturally curly, red hair ... it's quite impressive. 私の姪っ子、ゼルダは、長く、クルクルとした、赤い髪をしています‥‥なかなか、素敵。
My elder brother's family did a DNA test and found Viking ancestry in our mother's Swedish heritage. 私の兄家族は、DNAテストを受けて、母方のスウェーデン系家系の中に、バイキングの血筋を発見しました。
Sweden is of course famous for blonde hair but also has a higher than normal percentage of red-haired people. スウェーデンと言えば、もちろん、ブロンドヘアのイメージがあるのですが、赤い髪をした人々の割合も、通常より高いのです。
My father and my sister-in-law's heritage are both from Scotland. 父や、義理の姉は、どちらもスコットランド系です。
Scotland are the real world champions of red hair ... over 10% of the population have it. スコットランドも、世界でも赤い髪の人が最も多い地域‥‥全人口の10%が、赤い髪をしているそうです。
People with red hair must inherit the gene from both parents, so this explains why my niece and nephew both have red hair. 赤い髪をした人は、両親からその遺伝子を受け継いだはず。ですから、私の姪っ子も甥っ子も、赤い髪で当然なのです。
My brother and his wife both have it in their genes! 私の兄も、彼の奥さんも、赤い髪の遺伝子を持っているのですから！
Every Christmas, my hairdresser sister-in-law straitens out Zelda's hair for fun. 毎年クリスマスになると、美容師でもある私の義理の姉は、ゼルダの髪をお遊びでストレートに伸ばしてみたりします。
But it soon reverts back to it's natural curly condition ... a sure sign of its Celtic/Viking obstinacy. でも、やっぱり元のクルクルに戻ってしまう‥‥これもケルト・バイキングの血の現れですかね。
