Enshu Arai Tezutsu Fireworks 遠州新居の手筒花火≫

Last Saturday night, I finally got to see the Enshu Arai Tezutsu Fireworks at Suwa Shrine. 先週の土曜日、諏訪神社で、ついに遠州新井の手筒花火を見ることができました。
I heard about this unique festival many years ago and always wanted to visit. 何年か前から話には聞いていたので、ずっと行きたかったんです。
The Enshu Arai Tezutsu Fireworks is a fairly old festival that started about 300 years ago. 遠州新井の手筒花火は、古いお祭りで、約300年前に始まったそうです。
2000 rope-wrapped bamboo canisters are packed with gunpowder and set alight. 2000もの手筒に火薬が詰め込まれ、着火されました。
They spray a powerful shower of sparks into the sky ... very spectacular! 火の粉のシャワーが勢いよく空へ吹き出しました。壮観な眺めです！
The sake drinking beforehand must help the participants with the pain of the spark shower! 花火を抱える人たちは、前もってお酒を飲んで、降り注ぐ火の粉の痛みを紛らわすとか。
You can get an idea of the festival from the short video I shot below. 僕が撮った短いビデオを見てください、どんなお祭りかわかると思います。
Unfortunately, the festival organizers strung a cable across the main viewing position ... it photobombs almost all the pictures. 残念なことに、主催者が観覧席の真ん中にケーブルを配線してしまって、写真の邪魔になってます。
Luckily, after the event, I could take home a small-sized tezutsu as a souvenir. 帰りに、ちっちゃい手筒をお土産にもらっちゃって、ラッキー！
