The 2018 Winter Olympics have finished and the Japanese and Korean women's curling teams did very well. 2018年冬のオリンピックが終了しました。女子カーリングでは、日本代表も韓国代表も大活躍でしたね。
The Koreans took the silver medal led by their ferocious round-glasses-wearing skip Kim Eun-jung. 冷静なスキップ（司令塔）のキム・ウンジョンが率いるカーリング韓国代表チームが銀メダルを獲得。
The Japanese team took the bronze medal led by skip Satsuki Fujisawa and had a very charming way of saying 'so dane' during their matches. 可愛らしい試合中の「そだねー」が話題となった、 スキップ・藤沢五月 が率いる日本代表チームも銅メダルを獲得しました。
All the Olympic curling excitement got me thinking about curling in Japan ... or rather the lack of curling in Japan. オリンピックでのカーリングに対する熱狂ぶりを見て、日本におけるカーリング競技について考えました…いや、日本におけるカーリング不足とでも言った方がいいのかも。
The Japanese Women's Curling squad practices in a tiny little town in northern Hokkaido called Kitami City. カーリング女子日本代表選手達は、北見という北海道北部にある小さな町で練習を積んでいます。
Their curling hall building was constructed fairly recently and is about half the size of Hamamatsu's new Costco Building. 彼女たちのカーリング場が建てられたのはごく最近のことで、浜松に新たに登場したコストコの半分くらいの大きさです。
It's looks so nice that I think we should build one in Hamamatsu City. なかなか素敵な建物なので、浜松市にも建てたらいいのにな、と思うのです。
Curling is a growth sport in East Asia and the excitement of the last two Winter Olympics has made it ever more popular in Japan. カーリング競技は、東アジア諸国でもメジャーになりつつあり、今回と前回の冬季オリンピックでの盛り上がりを受けて、日本でも人気の高まりを見せています。
I don't think construction costs are very high for a curling hall ... the building is basically an empty shell with refrigerated ice floors. カーリング場建設費はさほど高くはないのでは、と私は踏んでいます…建物は、基本空っぽの骨組みに冷房の効いたアイスリンクがあれば良いのです。
LED lighting has greatly reduced electrical costs and the abundant sunshine in Hamamatsu City makes solar-power very feasible. LEDで電気代は大幅にコストダウン、そして浜松市の十分すぎるほどの日光で、ソーラーパワーも活用可能です。
Think about the beauty of using sunshine to make ice ... it's almost poetic! 日光を使って氷を作る…なんて詩的なんでしょう！
There are two very suitable locations for a curling hall in Hamamatsu City ... Yotsuike Park or at the Green Arena near Sunstreet Hamakita. 浜松市には、カーリング場を建設するのに最適な場所が二箇所あります…四ツ池公園か、サンストリート浜北近くのグリーンアリーナ。
I overlaid an image of the Tokoro Curling Hall on some satellite images of both locations ... the red rectangles are near approximate size. それら二箇所の衛星画像に、所カーリング場の図を重ねてみました…赤い三角が、大体の大きさです。
With a professional curling hall in Hamamatsu City, I would bet that within 10~15 years we would find some locally-born Olympic level curlers. プロ用のカーリング場が浜松にあったら、10年から15年の間に、浜松からオリンピックレベルの選手が見つかるかもしれません。
There has been some planning for a new, large-scale baseball stadium in the south of Hamamatsu City ... do we REALLY need that? 浜松南部に、大規模な野球場建設の予定が立てられています…でも、必要あるのかな？
Baseball already seems like an oversaturated sport in Japan ... let's think about new sporting possibilities! 野球は日本では既に飽和状態。新たなスポーツの可能性について、考えてみましょうよ！
