I went to see the, 'Looking East: Western Artist and the Allure of Japan' show today.
今日は華麗なるジャポニズム展に行ってきました。

It's being held at the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
現在名古屋ボストン美術館で開催されています。

In the foyer to the museum, there is a replica kimono on display.
美術館の入り口にはレプリカの着物が展示されていました。

It's a reproduction of the one worn by Camille Monet in the painting 'La Japonaise'.
「ラ・ジャポネーズ』という作品でカミーユ・モネが着用した着物を再現したものです。

She is wearing a blonde wig to emphasize that she is not Japanese.
彼女は自身が日本人でないことを強調するためにブロンドヘアーのかつらを被っています。

Her famous husband Claude Monet made the painting in 1876.
彼女の夫はかの有名なモネ・クロード、1876年の作品です。

It was done when art work from newly opened Japan was influencing Western artists.
それは日本の作品が海外の画家に影響を与えた頃の作品です。

Actually, this is the theme of the entire show.
実は、これが今回のすべての展示のテーマなのです。

The painting is on display at the museum ... it's very large and impressive.
美術館に展示されたその絵は。。。とても大きいし素晴らしいものでした。

You can see the 'La Japonaise' painting above, but I recommend seeing it in person.
「ラ・ジャポネーズ』はこのブログでも見ることが出来ますが、直接行って鑑賞することをお勧めします。

PS. I tried a photo montage of the kimono ... not so impressive.
あと、着物の合成写真を作ってみたんだけど。。。大して素晴らしくない！
