前回に続いて、また写真メインのブログです。
Last Sunday I visited 'Oil Mountain' Temple in Fukuroi City.
先週の日曜日、袋井市の油山寺を訪れました。
It's about 40 minutes from Hamamatsu, near Kasuisai Temple.
油山神社は可睡斎の近くにあり、浜松からは40分ほどかかります。
It has a strange name, especially in English.
変な名前。英語にすると益々。
However, the name 'Oil Mountain Temple' is for a very simple reason.
でも、「油の山の寺」という名前がついた理由はいたってシンプルです。
There once was oil bubbling up from under the mountain.
かつてはこの山の下から油が湧き出ていたようです。
This season, it's pretty easy to take stunning looking pictures in Japan.
この季節は、日本では簡単に美しい写真を撮ることが出来ます。
The autumn foliage colours are splendid, and the weather has been perfect too.
秋の紅葉の色は素晴らしく、天気も最高。
To get some exercise, I ran up these 117 steps.
ちょっと運動のために、117段の階段を駆け上がってみました。
For all the hard work, there was nothing special to see on the top.
苦労の末、頂上には特に見るべきものなし。
There's a very elegant looking grove of bamboo trees next to a small stream.
小川のそばには美しい竹林があります。
Yusan-ji has a beautiful, old 3-tiered pagoda which is a rarity in Shizuoka Prefecture.
油山寺は静岡県では珍しい美しく古い三重塔です。
There is also a waterfall viewing hut with a three-clawed Japanese dragon on the inside ceiling.
また、滝見の庵もあり、天井には三本爪の竜が描かれています。
Traditionally, Chinese dragons have five claws, Korean dragons have four, and Japanese dragons have three.
伝統的に、中国の理由は五本爪、韓国の竜は四本爪、そして日本の竜は三本爪です。
Apparently, this modification developed in response to the five-fingered dragon being the symbol of Chinese emperors.
どうも、この違いは、五本爪の竜が中国皇帝のシンボルであったことから来ているようです。
Yusan-ji's dragon looks like it's holding a dragon ball.
油山寺のりは、ドラゴンボールを握っているように見えます。
