Last Sunday, Hana No Mai had an open house event at their sake brewery.
先週の日曜日花の舞酒造でイベントがあった。

Every year in October they celebrate the uncorking of their 'New Sake' with a big party open to the public.
毎年１０月に”新酒解禁”をお祝いして一般公開の大きなパーティを開く。

There is no cost and it's an all-you-can-drink event so usually a couple thousand people turn up.
費用ゼロいわゆる”すべて飲み放題”のイベントだから、いつも何千人もの人が押し寄せる。

A couple of thousand freeloaders!
数千人のたかる人々！

This year some friends invited me to join them and we freeloaded on the fresh new sake.
今年はボクの友達が招待してくれて、僕たちも新鮮な新しい酒にたかった。

The party started at 10am and ran until 3pm.
パーティは１０時に始まり3時まで行われた。

I arrived at about noon and spend 30 minutes looking for my friends.
ボクは正午に到着して、友達を探すのに30分もかかった。

When you arrive, the courteous staff give you a free glass and point you to the free sake stalls.
会場に到着すると、対応のいいスタッフが無料のグラスをくれ、無料の酒屋台の場所を教えてくれる。

After that, it's a 'no-questions-asked' 'all-you-can-drink' 'free-for-all' ... and that's what I did.
そのあと”質問なし”、”飲み放題”、”すべて無料”それはボクがしたことだった。

I had thought that Japanese sake was about 10% alcohol by volume or about the same as wine.
日本酒のアルコール含有量は10％かまたはワインと同じくらいと思っていた。

So, as an experience drinker with many years and many bottles under my belt, I set my pace accordingly.
だから、ボクのベルトの下の長年の多くのボトルの経験から、飲むペースを設定した。

Japanese sake is deceivingly easy to drink, and I knew through experience that fresh, unpasteurized 'new sake' is even more so.
日本酒は飲みやすくないし、新鮮な低温殺菌していない新酒はなおさら飲みにくいことも知っていた。

After downing about 8 glasses, I noticed a sign in Japanese that indicated the alchohol level of this 'new sake''... 18.5%
８杯目で撃沈した後、この新酒のアルコールレベルは18.5％であることに気づいた。

This stuff was rocket fuel and I had already had about double of what I had paced myself for.
このことが致命傷だった。いつも飲むペースの2倍の量をすでに飲み終わっていた。

Around 2pm I noticed many other people had similar 'pacing' problems.
午後2時ごろ他の人たちもペース問題で悩まされていることに気づいた。

There was falling down, throwing up, close proximity yelling, unnecessary hugging, sudden mood swings, and zombie locomotion.
くずれ落ちたり，嘔吐したり、奇声に近い声をあげたり、突然の気分の変化などそれはまるでゾンビの集団だった。

I don't remember much after about 2.30pm.
午後２時３０分以降のことはあまり覚えていない。

Somehow I made my way to the shuttle bus, and then to the train, and finally arrived back at my office.
なんとかしてシャトルバスまでたどり着き、電車に乗り、オフィスまで戻ってきた。

But I don't remember any of that.
でもあまりそのことも覚えていない。

I do vaguely remember coming into my office and sitting in a chair, then putting my head into my crossed arms on the table.
オフィスに戻り、椅子に座り、机の上に腕を組みその上に頭を突っ伏したことはぼんやりと覚えている。

This must have been at about 4pm.
これは午後４時ごろだったに違いない。

I woke up in the same position in the chair at 10pm.
夜１０時に椅子の上で同じ姿勢で目覚めた。

6 hours later ... crazy.
６時間後...狂っている。

The next morning I looked at my mobile phone camera folder.
次の朝、自分の携帯のカメラフォルダをみた。

About 25 pictures showed me with groups of people smiling and hugging, with arms around each other like great friends would do.
２５枚の写真の中には笑いあい、ハグをして、まるで昔からの親友のように腕を組んでいる人々が写っていた。

I didn't recognize anybody.
だれも覚えてないけど。
