So it's the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere.
だから北半球では夏至、南半球では冬至の日だったんですね。

Artist Takeshi Murakami was commisioned by Google to provide logo artwork to mark this event.
村上 隆氏はGoogle社の委託を受け、のロゴ アートワークを作成。

Google often alters their logo on special occasions like the summer/winter solstices.
Googleはこういった、夏至とか冬至みたいな特別な日によくロゴを変えていますね。

If you live in the northern hemisphere, you can see the image above.
もし北半球に住んでいたら、上の画像を目にしているはず。

If you live in the southern hemisphere, you can see the image below.
南半球に住む人には下の画像が見られるようになっています。
