Last Saturday, in the early morning, I received some sad news from my brother.
先週の土曜早朝、兄から悲しい知らせを受けました。

My father, William 'Billy' Bissett Armstrong, had passed away at 82 years old.
ボクの父、'ビリー'ことウィリアム ビセット アームストロングが82歳で永眠しました。

Recently, he had caught influenza and had some trouble getting better.
最近インフルエンザにかかって、回復が芳しくない状態だったんだ。

He also had heart trouble many years ago, which had made him a little weaker than usual.
それから何年も前に心臓の病気を患っていることもあって、以前より体力が落ちてはいたんだ。

I returned to Canada immediately to help my family with all of the arrangements.
すぐにカナダに帰り、手続きからすべて家族を手伝いました。

We had a wake yesterday and the funeral will be held later today.
昨日はお通夜、今日はこれからお通夜の予定。

I was pleasantly surprised to see many familiar faces at the wake and it was comforting to be able to be with old friends.
馴染みの人たちにお通夜で会えたのは嬉しい驚きで、旧友たちと一緒にいられるのも居心地の良い思いだった。

My father had a brother who is 86 years old and he made a long trip by train to be here.
父には86歳のお兄さんがいて、お通夜に参列するために遠くから駆けつけてくれたんだ。

It was also very nice to see him and our other close relatives.
おじさんや、近縁の親戚に会えるのもとても嬉しかった。

My mother, brother, and sister have been very strong for the last few days in organizing everything and I think my father would be very happy with his sendoff.
ボクの母や、兄、妹もこの数日間気丈に過ごしていて、父も見送りしてもらえて嬉しかったことだと思う。

I would like to thank everyone for their condolences messages and I apologize for the disruptions this has caused.
みんなのお悔やみの言葉には心から感謝しています。それから、今回の事態をお詫びします。

I will be returning to Japan on Monday 21st.
21日の月曜に日本に帰るからね。
