Mandarin Peeling
It's Mikan orange season!

In English, the Japanese 'Mikan' type fruit have five different names;

1. Mandarin - This name comes from China.

2. Tangerine - This name comes from the city of Tangier in Morocco and is used more by Europeans. Tangier is the port from which the fruits were shipped to Europe.

3. Christmas Orange - This name is used by some North American people because the fruit is available around Christmas time.

4. Satsuma - British people call them by this name today. It comes from a historical mistake confusing the Japanese name of a potato type with that of the 'Mikan' oranges.

5. Clementine - This is the most widely sold variety around the world. Apparently, Clementines are named after a French Missionary named Clément Rodier who created the fruit in Algeria in 1902.

All of the fruits are bascially the same size, shape, and taste.

Here's how I like to peel a Mandarin Orange.

I try to remove the peel in one piece.

You should finish with a nice 'S' shaped peel.

Please watch the video below for my super-secret technique.
