My student told me this concert story today.
ボクの生徒さんがあるコンサートの話をしてくれた。
He is a fan of Tatsuro Yamashita, a 59 year old prolific Japanese pop-rocker who had his heyday in the 80's and 90's.
彼は、山下達郎 80〜90年代に全盛期だった59歳のポップロック歌手のファンだ。
Yamashita recently released a new cd that has climbed to number 1 on the Japanese pop charts.
最近発売された新曲は、日本のポップチャートで１番に輝いた。
My student bought 2 tickets for his show in the big hall of Hamamatsu's Act City.
彼は、浜松市のアクトシティの大ホールで行われるコンサートチケットを２枚購入した。
The show was sold out and the tickets cost ¥8000 each.
コンサートチケットは売り切れ、しかも１枚8.000円。
Expensive!

My student asked several people to go to the concert with him, even offering the ticket for free.
彼は「コンサートにいこう！」って何人かに声をかけた。ただでもいいから。
Unfortunately, nobody wanted to go to the concert with my student because of a special problem.
残念なことにある特別な問題のために誰もコンサートに行きたがらなかった。
Apparently, Mr. Yamashita is not very handsome and my student's friends and wife didn't want to 'see' him in concert.
明らかに、山下達郎はそんなにかっこよくない。その生徒さんのお友達の夫婦もコンサートで彼を見たくなかったんだって。
I repeat, they didn't want to 'see' him in concert.
繰り返すけど、彼らはコンサートで彼を見たくなかったんだ。
One of my younger students said that Yamashita was a little creepy looking because he is bald on top but has long hair in the back.
他の若い生徒さんは「山下達郎は頭部禿げているのに、後ろに長い髪があって少し不気味だ。」とも言っていた。
We have a special name for this hair condition in English, this hair style is called a 'Skullet'.
英語で彼のような髪型の人をこうやって呼ぶんだ。”スカルット”って。
※skull + mullet＝skullとは頭蓋骨の意味、mulletは前が短くて、後ろの髪が長い人。
skulletはこの２つを組み合わせた造語。
While I agree that maybe Mr. Tatsuro Yamashita is not the most handsome male specimen, his music is quite famous among middle aged people in Japan.
山下達郎がそんなにハンサムじゃないことはわかるけど、彼の音楽は日本の中年世代にかなり人気があるんだ。
It's a little strange that nobody wanted to go to the concert with my student using the free ticket just because of the less-than-impressive visuals.
ただのチケットでもみんなコンサートに行きたくないなんて少し奇妙なことだよね。ただ外見が良くないだけで。
Notice below that when Mr. Yamashita puts a hat on his head, he looks much better.
下の写真をみて。帽子をかぶったほうが、いいよね。
